Daytona 1200 noise

Ok, I've looked at the alternator, balancers, and cam chain tensioner and still have this loud rattling at idle-1500 rpm. Any ideas?

tritonwow, Sounds a bit solid for the clutch, but not quite like a small or big end bearing. Good idea for the you tube link tho', perhaps (hopefully) someone with a better ear can help.

Just hunting here; how about primary gear backlash? They're not silenced in any way are they?? And aren't they straight cut? How does the oil look?

I'll have to research the backlash. I have a '99 D12 and it by no means sounds like this one. However, the '99 has 10k miles and the '95 has 33k.
The oil was dark (but still translucent) with no trace of shavings, discolorations, etc.

Question re. d1200 noise

My 95 d1200 has a similar noise after I adjusted the front balancer because of
a whining noise. Please let us know if you track it down. I would really like to know
what is causing this noise.

Best Regards

Well, an update. It had started to run rough so I decided to start over and follow what the service/maintainence manuals have told me. I started with fuel and it's working (better be that's what the dealer was to fix). I then pulled the plugs and 1-3 were highly carbonized with #4 oily. WOW, Could it be a stuck valve or bad rings? Let me get a compression tester and leakdown tester... I couldn't find one on this island to fit so I ordered them. Hopefully I'll get to it this weekend and will make an update. I then plan to check the valve clearances just because I don't know where the bike is at.
I had recently got this bike so the first things I checked were the balancers, alternator, and cam chain tensioner. I've also done the poor man's stethescope (longshaft screwdriver on all sorts of suspect areas) to no avail.
Ok, ride safe everyone.

An update: I just checked the compression and found;
1 - 137.5 2 - 135 3 - 137.5 4 - 140

Now the funny part is I got a weird noise when the compression tester was in #3; it sounded like the piston was rapping the compression tester but I highly doubt it because the spark plug threads are longer than the tester. No signs of damage on the bottom of the tester or the electrode on the plug. This sound doesn't appear at any other time. It sounded like wrapping a wrench against a small pulley which you have your hand firmly against; high pitched but no reverberation.

Thoughts anyone?

Checked the valve clearances before the leakdown test and ther're all out of whack. I'll have to fix that first...
