A sprint is a bit more of an upright seating position, like a tourer where as the daytona is more of a sports bike style.

The frame is completely different, the engines are pretty similar except the Dayto gets a more extreme tune, to kick out 147 horses, where as the Sprint "only" runs up to 108(?). I have owned the Sprint 2001, and a 2004 Dayto, the Sprint is much easier to live with day to day, the passenger seat is more confortable and you can easily fit luggage and tour. The daytona is - as is marked on the box - a sports bike, and therefore it does sporty things well, and not a lot else...

Think of the Sprint as a better parade vehicle.

If the sprint is a detuned daytona--- I wonder what that might means in terms of longevity.

I'm sort of curious--- I wonder what the differences are btwn teh two engines--- camshafts I would presume to be different--- and timing is probably different---

do they use the same injectors? Same airbox? Same ECU?

Are the compression ratios the same--- or might the sprint have lower compression?

reason I ask is that this winter I have another 04 daytona to rebuild for myself. For my riding style (I'm an old man :=) 108 horses is as good as 130 or more--- doubt that I would ever miss the additional 20 or 30 horsepower----

but if the tradeoff was a less stressed longer living engine that might be worth thinking about--- or not???

i am sure the airboxes are different. the cams are, the frame are as someone stated, the suspension, the headers, the tona has larger diameter. the tona has CNC ground pistons that are lighter, all other style 955 motors have cast pistons that are heavier. the head work is different. there are lots of lightened parts that are in the Tona motor and none of the other 955 motors. the Tona is 147-148 hp at the crank from a 955cc motor. it makes the most hp right now of all the Triumph motors...it even beats the 2300cc Rocket...the Rocket kills it in torque though. there is no reason to fear the
Tona motor because it has lighter parts or makes more hp. this is one stout well made engine...and as far as the tona vs a sprint....the sprint wins hands down...when you are talking all day comfort. the tona can be made road worthy though with a good seat and some Heli bars...the clip on risers. i am about to embark on a cross country trip on my 04 tona. i have made frames for hard bags and a top rack that covers the rear seat....so i will say that i have the best of both worlds...a hot bike for the twisties....and when I'm done with the corners...i mount the bags and hit the roads with luggage. for me...i will sacrifice a little comfort to be able to have the sporting ability the Tona has over the Sprint. thats just me though...

Dano is right; a good seat and some bar risers make the Daytona a true do-it-all bike, from sport riding to moderate pace touring. I rarely participate in the latter, but it's nice to know it's not out of the question. After a 750 mile day chasing an Electra Glide around, I was perfectly ready to do it all again the next day. Comfort-wise, at least. Gad I hope my father in law trades his HD in on a BMW...

I do love the Sprint's triple pipe exhaust outlet.

I have owned both. 2001 Sprint and 2003 Tona. The Tona blows away the sprint in every way except passenger comfort. For rider comfort, they are both in the same category to me. and I am 6'3" 220lbs.
The sprint front suspension is awful and super soft and mushy. It used to scare me when I pushed the bike the way it compressed and made the rear end stand up and wallow.
Power wise they are both great with the Daytona being much stronger if you are pushing real hard. But for 90% of riding they are pretty much the same.
