Even with a used Tuneboy, you'll still need to buy a key for your ECM. The software is a free download, and the cable is fairly simple, but the key is what ties it to your bike.

Thanks...I wasnt sure what all was needed to be bought. If you could use a laptop and just get the software and cables and key or what.

All the OEM triumph tunes are available for download off the Tuneboy Website so you can get your Tiger & Daytona tunes from there.

The e-bay add makes reference to purchasing the tune edit key from your local Triumph dealer. You'd likely get some strange looks from your dealer if you asked to buy the key from them. Doesn't the key still come directly from Wayne? I know it did when I purchased my kit a couple of months ago.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I read that. You buy it from the tuneboy site. And dealers do not distribute the tuneboy.

The TuneBoy tool has two components, the "starter kit" which is the software w/cable and the second is the TuneEdit key. You can purchase the key directly from Wayne even if your next door neighbor has the starter kit and use it. They don't have any issue with that just like if you own multiple Triumphs you have to purchase a key for each one. A friend of mine bought a used bike that came with the cable/software/key setup. I then purchased a key to use my friends cable/software. The starter kit is about $589 AUS and at roughly a 2 to 1 exchange rate that means it is roughly $290 US. Last I checked the ebay post it was less than $200 US, which is a deal. When I purchased the key (in May I believe) I paid roughly $186 US. As long as the cable is in good shape you can download the software from the tuneboy.au.com site. So my .02, if you get this for anything less than $290 it is a deal.
Regards,
g

:Okay, I am not firing on all cylinders. The post was in reference to the seller stating the key came from the Triumph dealer and not directly from Wayne.

From the Tuneboy site...

Quote:
TRIUMPH USB STARTER KIT
For Keihin or Sagem ECU(Triumph version), this includes the USB TuneBoy cable, diagnostic software and one TuneEdit key.

The auction doesn't include the "key" because it's ECU specific. Even if it were included, it would be worthless to the buyer.

So, if the software can be downloaded from the Tuneboy site and a TuneEdit key has to be purchased separately, essentially the auction is for a USB cable. Right?
