Swing arm protector piece under chain....

Hey guys!
Ok, does anyone know what/how much one would need to remove in order to replace the rubber (or maybe it's black plastic, not sure) protector piece that sort of follows underneath the chain? ('Tona is a '97 T595 by the way!) In tightening the chain today, it was noticed that the black protector strip underneath it is quite chewed up and even broken off in one place...how easy is it to replace this piece?
Thanks!

You're quite the grease monkey, aren't you!

Single sided swing arm or double?

Lol, Sprocketjockey...um, well, I wouldn't say that I am a SUCCESSFUL grease monkey, but trying to learn! But a woman has to know her limitations lol! It is a SSSA and the chain is definitely whacking against the swingarm (you can hear it as you shift from 1rst to 2nd) due to the fact that this rubber guide/protector/whatever ya call it, is broken off there. I am hoping it is an "at-home" doable fix...if not for me, then for my fiance. My biggest accomplishment to date, has been just installling 2 new front turn signals! I was actually amazed when I got the wiring right and they worked!
So, tell me, Mr. Sprocketjockey...is there hope?! Do you know the piece I am trying to describe?

ladyhawk, Loosen the chain as much as possible. Remove the chainguard/brake pipe container/mudguard. Pay attention while removing the chain guide as the reverse is how the new one installs.

Yes, ladyhawk you can replace it without removing the SSSA.
You can see below there are just a couple of screws holding it in.
If you loosen up the chain, you should be able to access the screws - these are Torx heads, get a set of socket drive bits - they're used lots of places on the Triumphs.
They have those in the Powerbuilt tools at Kragens at reasonable price & these are decent quality (not premium like Snap-on, but OK - good value) and have lifetime warranty (I've used it & they were responsive, no questions asked, just replaced)

Bradtx & DEcosse, thank you sooooo much....very helpful to me! Will attempt to replace it by loosening the chain as you suggest. Also will check to see if we have those socket drive bits, and if not will go with the Kragen ones. That BikeBandit schematic pic is actually very helpful too, and I will probably be ordering the new piece from them. I must say, though, that I had thought the piece was a fully enclosed loop, going all the way around, but it looks like it is just supposed to run the length of the track...?
Ok, so off to order the piece now, you guys are great, thanks again!

My esteemed colleagues beat me to it. Should be an easy task.

Stock or aftermarket? We need pics!

Is your fiance on the board? If not, drag him in here for introductions.
