Engine Light

Had a flat battery on my 955 today, daughter was messing and left the sat nav on

Anyway I needed to ride out tonight so placed on charge for an hour or so with a maximiser, the bike started ok, but the engine light is on on the dash, will this clear or have i got to go to the dealer ???

From what I have heard the light should clear on it's own after a number of start and stop cycles. Could be as few as 3 and as many as 40?

If it doesn't go off, you could just go down to your local auto parts store and buy a cheap automotive OBD2 scanner and use it to read the codes and/or clear the engine (MIL) lamp. Might be a little cheaper than a visit to the dealer and would give you a simple diagnostic tool for the future.

Try three or four warm up cycles. By that I mean start the bike and ride it till it reaches operating temperature(mines around 180) then let it cool down. That is one cycle. Three or four of these will reset the light. Good Luck - web

3 cycles is enough to clear the engine light most of the time. Once your battery is at the end of its life then the light will come on very often. In my case the light comes on regularly. If I start the bike then shut it off before it reaches operating temp or when the fan is on to cool the engine and I shut it off the light comes on the next time I start the bike. Not very reassuring but I have learned to live with it. I never go to the dealer to get it reset. I want to actually sell the bike but find it hard with the light coming on all the time.

Hi Colin955Devon, what sat nav are you using and how have you fixed it to the bike? Would be interested in a picture if you've got one.

PS agree with the others, 3 heat cycles should sort the light out.

I modified the ram mount that came with the zumo, I will post a pic soon, if i get the bike back

UPDATE the bike is now at the dealers with a burnt out loom after a failed rectifier, they tried the usual by blaming aftermarket parts like the zumo (5 milliamps) but after kicking off they have agreed to fix it under warranty, why do these dealers try and wriggle out of fixing it when triumph reimburse them

Good to hear they will fix it under warranty. They probably fuss about it for a couple reasons. Trying to get the manufacturer to agree could become a pain. And money. They probably have a set rate for warranty repair through the manufacturer, but making the owner of the bike pay, they can nab you for more.

It is definitely 3 heat cycles to reset your trouble light. just let it idle for 5 min or so and it will go through them the quickest.
I have had a few issues with the light coming on associated with a weak battery on both my Tona and my Sprint. The other issue I have had on both bikes is the fuel sensor tripping the light. If it goes out of range the light comes on. It has happened to me in both situations, the battery gets weak and sends the fuel sensor out of range. Also when the sensors get old sometimes they go out of range when the tank is almost empty.

Well, Finally got the bike back today, The fault although they first thought was a charging fault turns out to be the battery, Although it wasnt covered under warranty and also outside of the dealers 30 warranty they have replaced it FOC (including all labour and a recovery fee) so fair play to the dealer on this.

However Triumph technical have said that i have "Overloaded" the bike with accessories and will not reimburse the dealer, I have a Zumo fitted (1.09 Amp) an autocom pro 300 (0.5 Amp) and a bike to bike radio (.7 Amp) a total of 2.3 amps< How silly is that, heated grips would be about 7-8 amps on their own, how can they justify saying its overloaded, just another Triumph cop out i think, Anyway thanks Mr Dealer.
