02 Daytona Problems with speedo

Intermittantly my speedo doesn't work. It reads 0. When it happens it sometimes reads 1 or 2 mph then goes back to 0. Now if I shut it off and re start it sometimes it works. It does this to me two or three times a week. What do you think the problem is? I heard the speedo reads off the front tire. Could it be a sensor starting to fail?

THanks
Andy

I had the same problem. Loading a newer tune solved the issue. Search the TRAT database an you will see that this is one of the most discussed issues.

Andy, There are two types of speedo failures with the '02> D955is. First is the classic '0 reading' and the second where very low readings are displayed.

The first is caused by a low battery or a poor electrical connection (usually at the battery). Even after rectifying the original problem the speedo will often still misbehave. In this case either the tune boy's speedo diagnostic disable or a Triumph repair tune needs to be loaded.

The second is caused by a front wheel sensor failure (usually after r/r'g the front wheel) and requires a replacement.

I had the same problem with my 2002 model daytona. Checked other forums where low battery voltage was mentioned along with other things. For me it was eventually a new tune of the ECU. It had to be sent to the Triumph factory to get the new tune because the dealer was not able to program that part of the ECU.
