seems normal, just be firm with it good positive shifting is required.

Yeah, it's a little disconcerting, but it happens from time to time...

I don't have any issue with my '06 gearbox.

I preload the lever (lightly) and clutchless upshift like a hot knife through butter.

Very lightly preloading the lever for clutch assisted downshifts (very lightly) helps with silky smooth shifts downwards as well.

I do get a clunk into first from neutral and sometimes (rarely) it doesn't want to engage first and I have to get firm with it but that's hardly worth mentioning.

I found that using Motul 300V fully synthetic oil assisted *my* bike in the gearchange department.

YMMV.

Thanks for the input, I used to use Motul fully syn on my R6 and that was good , I will try this in the daytona, the heavy clunking is more when I change from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 1st maybe I need to get used to this

My 04 is clunky too. It's my first bike so I didn' t know any different. Did some internet research of the 04 back to when it was released. Many of the pros noted the clunky transmission. Post if the Motul helps though. - Web
