I had to break down and buy a Ducati 999s because I got tired of waiting for a new litre bike to replace the Daytona 955. Where the hell is it? Does anybody know? Will Hinckley let us know if they are even working on a replacement, please!!!! I love the***** out of my 955 but I am ready to move up to something along the lines of the 675 technology. Come'on Triumph, what's up?

There are rumours that Stuart Woods team are working on a V-Three Format large displacement engine to fit into a new range of Sports Bike.
The benefits are much narrower frontal area and with a 15o lean a very neat (675esque) packaging of pumps, clutch gearbox cassette etc.

My reading is that Triumph don't want to just produce a 'bigger' 675 but to place the new models further up their target foodchain by making them unique and with a hint of radical thinking.

I've got to hand it to them - if this is what they're working on and it has the same impact as the 675 had then I don't mind how long they take.

I mind as I am 56 and getting older by the day. I want to be able to ride it before being sent off to "Shady Pines" if you know what I mean?

We've been waiting for the next literbike since 2006.

I've always speculated that they were not going to leave that market uptapped for long. Now that Ductai has their 1098, a 1050 Daytona might make sense. That being said, they might be planning something completely new all together.

It takes a lot of resources to R&D a new bike and if Triumph wants their new literbike to be on the cutting edge, it might be best for them to take a year or two off, perhaps to see where the technology of other brands is going, what the market is doing in general, etc.

That being said, HURRY UP AND BUILD IT ALREADY!!!

I can wait a couple o' years. I still love my 955 for what it is. But a 675esque litre class 'Tona WILL be in my stable when it finally comes out. And when that happens, my 955 will turn into a touring machine, ala Speed Triple conversion. :-D

I am a bit worried about the possibility of the new "Hurricane" superbike/hyperbike rumor though. Does Triumph REALLY need to compete w/ the Hyabusa crowd? :???: I think not. :hammer:

The official response from Triumph is that the DO NOT intend to build a replacement litre class Daytona... Right! That's what every factory rep and Triumph insider I've ever talked to has said. They claim that there is no way Triumph can keep pace with what Japan Inc. is building, that they are not interested in the horsepower wars being waged and no matter what they might build it would always be regarded as an "also ran" by the press if it wasn't equal to or better than the Jap bikes. They also say they will never compete in the Busa/ZX14 class either for similar reasons and in their opinion it's too small a market segment (or something like that).

Anyways we all know we want a Daytona 1050 with similar styling to the 675, just sized up so us 6'-0" guys can ride it. I guess Triumph doesn't think there's enough of a market out there for it. I say they are wrong... if they build it we will come!

I didn't see people lining up to buy the TT600, Daytona 600, or 650. But they built the 675 anyway and it is still kicking ass without any upgrades. Triumph also said that they weren't going to build a 2200cc cruiser bike when rumors of what became the Rocket Three started to come out. They denied that they were building a 600cc sportbike when rumors of that started to fly, and look what we got. They're good about keeping their secrets, I'm holding hope that there's something in the early stages of development that they'll unleash in a few years.

Anyway, when our 955i get too old we can always go for a 1089 or equivalent from Ducati...

Did you guys see how bad the new Duc got trounced in the litre bike comparo in Sport rider last month? You really arent gaining much over our Tona's with that bike anyway.
THE ONLY REASON I WOULD CONSIDER ANY BIKE OVER THE ONE I HAVE IS IF MINE HAS TOO MANY MILES AND STARTS TO BREAK DOWN. I THINK IT IS THE NICEST BIKE I HAVE EVER RIDDEN OR SEEN AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN LEFT BEHIND BY ANY MACHINE UNLESS IT WAS NORTH OF 160 MPH.

But I might be a bit biased.
and
that doesnt include the MV Agusta.
:-D

Press always favour the big manufactures (jap bikes). Just remember how the 955i was compared with them. I' ve riden ZX9 and R6 and will never swap my 955i for such bikes. Brazilian magazine Moto! put a god report on the 1089 from a comparative test in Almeria, Spain. A 1 liter Triumph was missing there!!!
