Just bought 04 Daytona 955i. Having problems with the spedometer (already got my answer about that from this forum). Also noticed yellow/orange light directly below 14 on the tach. Illuminates an engine symbol I believe. What does it mean?? Thanks in advance - Web

That would be the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) also known in auto circles as the CEL (check engine light)
This could have been caused by your low battery condition (which I'm assuming you're referring to as cause of the speedo problem)
If the source of problem is no longer present it will clear after 3 warm-up cycles; it's really impossible to tell what caused it without pulling the OBD code from the ECM. But bottom line, if it goes away after you go through the warm-up cycles, nothing to worry about.

The light you speak of--if it's illuminating the engine symbol--is a "check engine light" or EMS light (Engine Management System.) To put it in simple terms, your computer control system is picking up an incorrect reading from one or more of the many sensors/wires throughout the motorcycle. Sometimes with enough investigation you could figure out what the problem is yourself, but often times you need to have a mechanic bring up the error code which is stored in the bikes computer. From there the mechanic can figure out exactly what sensor(s)/wire(s) the error(s) is/are coming from.

Just based off what you said about having a Speedo issue, that could very well be what is setting off the EMS light. If the speedo plug has a bad connection, or if there is a short somewhere within the speedo's wiring, the EMS light will come on.

For your information, if you were to find and correct what was causing the EMS light, the light should go off after 3 heat cycles--which is running the bike until running temp is achieved, allowing the bike cool off, and then repeating this 2 more times. Note to others: I don't know the exact time/temps for a "cycle" and don't have time at the moment to search the forums for such info, so that exact info would be nice. Hope that helps. P.S. Welcome!

Hi J - been meaning to call - we'll catch up soon

back to topic ....

See my post here for definition of heat cycle and appropriate temps and list of all the fault situations:

http://www.triumphrat.net/modules.ph...74867&forum=22

It's been reported widely that the speedo shuts down when battery is low - I presumed that is what you meant that you had found. Low volts will also trip the MIL. If you recharge the battery then perform the three heat cycles, it should go out if that was the cause.

Thanks to all.... sounds like there is a wealth of knowledge here... not sure you'd find this kind of community with other bikes.... made me glad I went with Triumph. I'll wipe the tear and go figure out what the light means...thanks again - Web
