What are you guys running for spark plugs?

I just got my bike a couple weeks ago and changed the oil, flushed the antifreeze, and now I want to change the plugs. Instead of doing it the hard way and pulling the old ones out to see what they were. I thought I'd ask on here. Also(if anybody know off the top of their heads) what gap to set them at.

I don't have an owners manual or I would have looked there first.

awegs955i, I just installed the NGKs in the '04 D955i...yours will use the same. In 'merican it's a .026-.027" gap (mine were spot on out of the box) and 13.8 lb ft torque. :hammer:

Tip: Best done with little gas in the tank! Keep track of the fuel hoses' positions (might be a good idea to pick up two fuel line O rings with the plugs). There is also two drain hoses and two electrical connectors on the tank. The airbox upper has one electrical connector and the lower three hoses. Be careful removing the lower airbox, lift the rear of the lower off the throttle bodies and pull to the rear. The fit around the throttle bodies can be quite tight. When installing the lower air box, a smear of oil around each throttle body help a lot.

Case in point of why I love forums. You just saved me probably about 45 minutes of mind work of how to take what apart, and put back together.

Thanks guys.

Be very patient and observant when refitting the air box. Make sure the little spring retainers don't roll and the rubber couplers don't fold over. You'll see what I mean when you get there. It's not difficult...just don't be a gorilla with it.

I use irdium spark plugs. I don't notice the promised improvement in performance but starting is better. I have only just put them in the 'Tona but I have had one for ages in my Suzie DRZ and it fires up first time every time with very little cranking.

(It is probably all wishfull thinking on my part to justify the extra cost. )

As for the airbox a little smear of wd40 on the "rubbers" helps them slide in a treat.

(It shouldn't rot them because they are supposed to be designed to survive in a petrol and oil atmosphere anyway.)

I just put the NGK iridiums in my tona last week. I dont notice any difference at all from the regular plugs.
When I changed them, my fuel lines would not stop leaking when I reassembled everything. I had to go and get new o-rings for the connectors and all was well after that. As mentioned before, you will have a much easier and less messy time if you run the tank down toward empty first.

Go to the dealer for the spark plugs. For 2002 only, Triumph used a two prong electrode on the 955 Daytona. They're about $9 a piece, so don't drop them.
