From my experience, which isn't much removed mine only once now, you will have to remove the front fairing and the headlights. Then you will be able to get to the screws that remove the instrument cluster. Once that is off you can then open the instrument cluster to access the lights. iconHERE is the schematic for the instrument cluster.

Yea, I can relate. I can't even tell how fast I am going at all right now. My speedo stopped one night and I wasn't sure what to do so I tore it apart and the last thing I checked was the problem(the cable). So now I know how to tear it apart. You will have to take the mirrors off, then the front fairing, then the headlights, and then you will have access to the screws that take the speedo off. Once that is off you can take the speedo cluster apart.

How many bulbs is there? My speedo is unevenly lit...is that normal? I'm thinking one bulb of many may be burnt out, but by the procedure outlined to replace it I'm not going to go to the trouble unless there's multiple bulbs...

99Torque on mine there are 2 for the tacho and 2 for the speedo + 6 down the side for the turns, oil, fuel etc.
NOTE not all the same size, the 6 down the side are all the same, 2 for tacho + plus one for speedo same size, 1 for speedo same size as the 6 on the side, go figure!!!
This is how mine ended up looking, still can't get 2 bolts back in!!!

Thanks, it looks like a far bigger job than one would expect. If there's two bulbs on the speedo thats both good news and bad news...it means none of the bulbs are burnt out...but it means that the speedo will always be poorly lit...oh well.

Thanks again, good luck with the bolts.
