I knew nothing about this recall until I did a search after the fact. I have an 02 Daytona an I smelled fuel the other day. I did some snooping around and found that the upper fuel connector to the mouting plate had a crack in it and fuels was leaking out. I did a search and found the recall. Iam waiting for the dealerships to open in 1-2 hours. Has anyone replaced theses on their own or has Triumph done them for you.? I'd really hate for them to have my bike tied up for weeks (or the weekend for that matter). I have also read that some of you have gone aftermarket. Does anyone remember their particulars? Here's a look at what I found:

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

FYI that is not covered by the recall. Only the "L" shape fuel fittings that plug into the nylon threaded insert.

I have a 04 Daytona and just got the fittings 2 weeks ago and replaced them myself. Easy to do.

With yours, the fitting is busted and IS NOT covered by Triumph. My brother just busted his on his 01 Triple and the part was $23 and a pain in the ass to get out of the tank because there is nothing to grab on to just like yours. Don't bother taking the metal plate off either... you can't access the fitting from the back. There is a cover welded over where it threads in.

We used a bolt extractor to get it out and some needle nose pliers and it worked. BE CAREFUL not to damage the metal threads on the tank. Alos be careful not to get any plastic from the fitting (which will break into little pieces) in the tank when you pull it out. I would replace your other one while you are at it too. Are you sure you did not break it trying to pull the tank off or messing with something in that area? If you have any questions, PM me and I'll give you my cell # if you want help. You can do this yourself though. You need to pull you tank off to do it obviously.

FYI, the Loctite is on the fittings from the factory. When you buy the new ones, it is already on there. That is what makes it a PITA to get out. It is not Loctite because it is not liquid, more of a putty kind of material that is on there. I would not remove it, just leave it on and let it do its job. It is there for a reason. You don't want to be leaking gas.

Same thing happened on mine. I think vibration may have played a part because it just started leaking one day. I hadn't moved lines, pulled the tank or anything else to stress the fitting.

If you're handy with a wrench, it's a no-brainer to fix.

A few things to mention...

*Do yourself a favor and replace both female tank fittings with metal ones.
*Have Triumph replace the male fittings on the hoses subject to recall.
*Mark which line goes where. The manual doesn't specify and my dealer didn't know if it mattered, but Triumph color coded them for a reason. ( I put a dot of red paint on the tank plate where the red fitting goes).
*Pull the tank. Then pull the plate (for the reasons Moto said).
*While you're in there, replace the fuel filter...it's probably overdue anyways. (you'll also need a new plate seal)
*Before you put the tank back on, check the air filter.
*And don't look for the hose that goes on the pressure regulator nipple...there isn't one.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Shameless plug for brass fittings

I just finished replacing my old stock fittings with a chromed brass set from Team Triumph. The job was very easy and only took about an hour and their instructions were very thorough. I had always assumed it was normal for the 955 to howl at startup and get poor mileage; now it is whisper quiet when the fuel system primes. It's too soon to tell what new mileage will be but the mounting plate is still clean with no leaks around the fittings.

Someone correct me on this but from what I have read, you do NOT want to use Locktite brand thread locker (green, blue or red) on anything plastic. I realize that this is somewhat of topic but I wanted to warn people against trying it.
