OK, i have been saying for a while that i was going to build a frame that can mount hard bags....well i finally got enough free time to devote to the project....the frames turned out great....i have the luggage on order from Chaparral motor sports. i bought the e360 GIVI matte silver bags. they appear to be 36 litres apiece but they are really 40 litres.

i made the frames out of stainless steel, i wanted the look and durability of stainless. the frame was built so that i could attach the GIVI tube frame to the bike. in the pictures the GIVI tube rack are black. the GIVI frames are universal to mount all of the monokey bags. the frames were listed as a M11 part in the GIVI catalog. the cost of each GIVI tube frame was 35 bucks, i think...

i bought stainless 3/8 pipe...not tube, and various pieces of flat stock. in all i think i paid 140 bucks for the stainless. i cut and shaped all the pieces and then took then to a welder friend and had him TIG weld up the frames.....i was a little disappointed in some of the welds...but for the price i couldn't complain....i did have him rework a few things though....

on the frames i made it so that i could bolt the GIVI frame to some aluminium pieces that can be moved towards the front of the bike, or to the rear....depending on how i want the luggage to sit. the aluminium pieces also allow me to move the Givi frames up or down...depending on how high or low i want the bags to sit....within a few inches. the stainless frames bolt are secured to the bike in 3 places. 1 is a flat bar that attaches under the seat. the 2nd is to a bolt that is just behind the seat on the sides. the 3rd is to a piece that attaches to the rear foot hanger attachment point on the frame.

i am going to also build a frame that mounts to the flat bar on either side of the seat and make a rack that will cover the rear seat. that way i can secure the odds and ends down with bungee straps. things like tents, sleeping bags....bulk item things.

the frames turned out very secure, and mount onto the bike in very little time. i think that it might take 10 minutes to disassemble the frames and to have the bike in canyon carver mode.....

when the bags come in i will test the system out and post some pics of the end results.....this wasn't horrible job, it just took a good amount of thinking to make it simple and durable.....let me know if anyone wants more info if they would be interested in making some for their selves.....

hope yall approve...heres some pics...

I'll take one, but I want mine in black. When can I expect delivery? :-D

Seriously Dano, that is SLICK!! You put some time into planning for sure. The only thing I can see is...how much does it flex, and would a bar between the two (at the botom rear corner) help stabilize them.

Awesome job!

thanks for the complement.....and the 2 bars at the bottom rear are 1/4 stainless, and only about 6 inches long. they are super strong, no flex at all from them. i thought it might need a support across the rear, but i dint think it will need it. this is a good start, ill see if this is all it needs, i can add to the frame if it is needed.

OK....so what would this be worth to you guys?....would you really be interested in a set?.....what would you ask for if ya had a interest and wanted something different?...there is a total cost right now of about 210 dollars in material, and like 200 in welding costs....I'm sure the next sets could be done easier and faster.....and the option of regular steel that could be painted. you could even paint it yourself the choice of your own color....wadda think?...give me feed back.

and ill let ya know how the road test goes in about a week, when i get the ordered luggage. i got the luggage for 280 bucks for two---e360 matte silver bags....so in all...this would cost ya +/- 600 bucks for the full system...

600 would be the all the parts and hard bags....that would be the stainless frame....I'm sure it is easier for you to buy the GIVI black frame and the luggage yourself. ...so for my costs it would take 450 or so for stainless......i would have to price regular hard steel to give ya that price...but I'm sure it costs lots less than the stainless frame that i made.

I'm interested in mild steel set. As the stainless is a bit out of reach plus my bike is all black so all black might look better. The only problem I see is that living on this side of the pond the shipping cost might be as much as the cost of making them. What do you think?

the weight of the frames aren't that much...i would have to say maybe 3 pounds a piece. you could buy the GIVI frame yourself and just have mine shipped....i have no idea how much it would cost to ship....this is all new to me.....and here is a pic of one of the bags that i got....they had one in stock.....

Nope but maybe trade em in for red cases. Givi do that model in red I think.

Could you research shipping and manufacture costs in mild steel? I'd realy appreciate it. I'm seriously interested. They are great dano.
