Hey All,
First post so be kind. I am looking at two Datona 955i's.
1. 2005 Demo bike lived inTriumph shop, 1,400 miles, Triumph upgraded exhaust, $7,800
2. 2002 Commemorative Edition (single sided swingarm)5,400 miles, great shape, Two Bros exhaust, $6,000
I am planning on riding this for five years or more.
They seem almost identical to me so it just is three years and 4,000 miles newer worth $1,800? Is there anything I should know about either bikes that would swing me one way or another?
I am pulling trigger tomorrow so your responses are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Heath

i think, for all intents and purposes, that the bikes are the sme spec. sssa, 147hp, the ce had lots of CF that the standard 04 doesn't.
i'm not sure of any changes to the electical system, etc but that would be worth a look. these bikes are known to be very reliable overall.
tough call for 1800 - that's a lot of coin. the only up of the new bike is the warranty. the old bike is the sme bike, with a 1-off paintjob and a little exlusivity.
i think the 02 will be a better buy, as the new 955 really has ***** resale. the less you lose off the top the better. the ce ought to hold it's value a bit better as it's 'special'.
good luck.

Heath, IMHO a demo bike is the same as a rent car...an all terrain race vehicle. Just a subtle hint on what my choice would be. :hammer:
theJimrose, All of the SSSA D955is have the full set of carbon fiber. The DSSAs didn't have the c/f infills, but seems many ended up with the option.

If it was me I'd buy the later one. By then all the niggly faults will have been ironed out.

Go for the newer one, its got no faults, its an ex demo, but its difficult to do harm on a litre bike cos even ridden flat out by a nutter its still over engineered, (well mine seems to be) :-D Its not much more for a three year younger bike, for me no contest get the newer one.

Motorcyclist magazine lists seat to peg distance as 17.3 inches for 2002 and 17.9 inches in 2004--has anyone ridden each generation daytona and noticed the 2004+ to be more comfortable?

Tony, I'd have never known if you hadn't mentioned it.

Sweet picture--are those both yours? Do you notice any differences (ergo or otherwise) at all?
I had been eyeing the 04+ in red as my next bike--but I also like the looks of the earlier gen in caspian blue--and that might be more cost effective if the differences are not significant.

That fraction of a difference is possibly caused by slightly different rear sets, I believe. Unless it's just the heel guard that has changed and everything else stayed the same. Even if it's slightly different, I don't think it would be a noticeable difference...
Either way, you could change your ergos by finding a suitable pair of rear sets, or using a sargent seat if it's that crucial...
