I ve just bought a new 06 Triumph daytona 955i, from new I have noticed that there is a very noticable whining/whirring between 30 and 40mph. First impressions are that it seems to be coming from the front. The sound speeds up and slows down with the speed of the bike.

The dealer said they checked it at the 500mile service, and said it was the front Bridgstone tyres.

I'm not convinced, as it almost sounds like a worn final drive noise.

Can anyone clarify this, This is my first triumph, and i cant remember the demo bike making this noise.

Has anyone had a similar noise when riding their Daytona?.

Thanks

You'll probably find that it's the rubber "cush drive" thingy (technical terms here, try to stay with me) on the front sprocket.

This thing is good for between 500 and 1000Klms and then the rubber thingy is about shagged for noise dampening.

I know mine was quiet when new (both bikes) and after around 500Klms, they became noisier due to the above mentioned.

These bikes are noisy and growly anyway compared to slick Jappo things. It's part of the appeal.

bertsurf, Both of the Daytonas ('02 and '04) here have a bit of transmission whine. It's the same whine that my Z1, with it's straight cut gears had. It hasn't been a problem.

That said, my OEM BT010 front tire will make a whirring sound at certain lean angles. Front and rear are pretty much due for changing anyhow.

My '06 D955i has the same noise. As Linz says - part of the appeal. I mentioned it at the 600 mile initial service and had the same response from the dealer.

Bet your chain is too tight. Mine did the same after a service. Most chains run 25mm of slack at the mid point. On SS swingarm models you should run 40mm of slack at he mid point. It seems a lot of people don't realise this (dealers included ) and tighten the chain thus causing the whine.
