Maybe it's me being my usual paranoid self, but..... checked the oil level yesterday and noticed that it was overfilled by about an inch on the dipstick!! (about 3/4 of a litre?!). I must have been in another world when I refilled it after changing the alternator cover a month or so ago. Bike has run perfectly since then though, no leaks, no sign of blown seal etc... obviously I have drained off the oil to the acceptable level now.

All seems well, but just wondering what the chances are that I have actually done some damage. Anyone had experience of overfilling? Are the triple engines okay with this?

Only possible problem I can think of running a 955 with too much oil is stressing the motor (shifting extra oil round system) or blowing the gearbox oil seal. The one behind the front sprocket. I'd get a tube and a syringe and take it out if I were you just to be safe.

Yep, I've taken out the excess and it is running fine to be honest. No signs of a leak at the gearbox, although I'm checking it every journey to make sure.

Fingers crossed

If you overfilled it a bit, you could pressurize the crankcase and ruin some seals, or you could possibly pump some oil up into the airbox which would then run into the intakes and burn off. You'would see some pretty blue smoke in this case :-D .
If you REALLY overfill it, same as above with the exeption that you could get sooo much oil up there, you could hydrolock the motor. You would know it if this happened :hammer: .
If nothings amiss or leaking, you did no damage...relax.
Cheers, Lee S.

How many quarts of oil do our bikes take? I just got mine and didnt get an owners manual. I'm about to change it.

Thanks,
Andy

3litres (2.7quarts) oil change only.
3.2litres (2.9quarts) oil+filter.

I just did the same thing on my Husky and blew the oil seal...

Lame!

Thought a liter was more than a quart?

3.78 liters = gallon = 4 quarts
