I've recently laid my hands on a 99 Daytona thats in very good shape with a couple minor exceptions. The park functionality and basically anything left of the start and off positions of the key don't work. The handlebars are all the way turned to the left and I can see that they're touching the stops yet the key won't turn any further left. I've tried every gyration of wiggling, twisting, pushing down and nothing.

Has anyone else experienced this? Its past being tight, it just won't budge...and I'm not interested in twisting off the key!!!

In order for the key to turn anti-clockwise, the first position would be the steering lock - when that operates, a pin in the ignition switch projects from the switch & locates in a hole in a boss on the frame steering head (rotate the bars to the right & you will see the receiving hole)
If you are pushing bars hard left against the stop, it may that you are going too far and the pin is actually past the point of engagement in the hole. There is a 'sweet spot' you need to hit just right.
Try turningbars completely to left, then try to turn the key anti-clockwise & while sustaining pressure on the key, slowly move the bars to the right & see if the key will then turn & the lock pin engage.
Once you get to lock position there should be nothing stopping the key then turning to 'park'

Good luck!!!

99Torque, Try this. Switch to OFF, push down on the key and release, then turn to lock.

Agreed with both comments. Mine does not lock when all the way to the stop. I do have to gently push the key down to get it there.

Sorry - forgot to mention pushing down on the key but it does have that instruction right on the top of ignition! Important detail of the instruction though.

Thanks, I'll have a go tonight, I'm used to the lock position being full left, once I've had a look at the hole where the locking pin goes it shouldn't be a problem.

Right on fellas, Bradtx, that was the solution had to push down and let it back up, then turn to the left.

Works perfectly now...umm...operator error! Thanks.
