Need some input. Last fall I bought a 2000 daytona with a 2Brothers exhaust. One of the big things I have noticed is that the exhaust is really stinky. By the time I get to work everything I have on (jacket, pants, gloves, helmet, backpack) totally reek of exhaust/gassy smell. Bike runs fine, no smoke, no burnt oil, nothing wrong with it mechanically. Question to you other daytona owners with aftermarket exhaust is if your bikes stink as bad as mine? I know the bike has a richer tune on the engine to go with the exhaust. Love the extra power and sound of the 2 bros, but have been toying with the idea of putting the stock pipe and tune back on to get rid of the smell. I can barely breathe in my office from the stink of my jacket.

Does anyone know if the stock pipe has a catalytic converter in it?

Any suggestions?

thanks

Sounds like it is running too rich, I haven't had that problem with my Trident pipe. There isn't a cat in the pipe. Or maybe you need to have the valves adjusted?

When I got my bike, the shop I bought it from said that other people who got the 2bros pipe and went to get it dyno tuned had a difficult time getting them to tune in nicely.

xactoman, Unless the 2Brothers can is collapsing inside, this is a tuning issue. We've had at least three different 2Brothers' can configurations and on their own, they don't smell.

So then the million dollar question is do you need an EFI remap with an aftermarket pipe? The two brothers web site says that you do not, but everyone seems to do it. Obviously I have a pipe and a triumph retune and it is waaaaaay rich. Given that, I can't imagine that a stock EFI tune with aftermarket pipe would be to lean. Am I wrong?

My 2BR on my Speed Triple engine was also way too rich, with similar results. Friends used to hate riding behind for the two-fold effect of the noise (very loud!) and the raw gas smell. I would also detect it on my clothes after a ride. This was with the high level TORs tune installed.
Sounds like you need custom tune - Tuneboy is the answer.

stay away from the tuneboy it is in all honesty a pain in the ass. i have one and have spent way too many hours of my life trying to get that thing working. it sux. i paid near 400 for it. i finally got a tune on my bike then it stopped working (connecting). the read me file has holes in the directions and its not for the average motorcyclist. if you have 20 hours of your life to throw away on this little piece of hardware then i say go for it. otherwise take it to a dealer and pay 50 dollars and get it tuned.

Can't disagree more - the tuneboy is a fabulous tool - if you have the wherewithall to understand how to use it.
The dealer will not "tune" it - they will simply select one of the three available tunes for that bike - std, high after or low after - that's it!

I kind of figured the dealer wouldn't be much help in getting things right. The previous owner ran it like this for a long time, so I suspect there wasn't much that the dealer could really dial in for him. I suspect it has the TOR high level exhaust tune installed. My plan was to have the dealer return it to stock triumph tune and if that wasn't good, then use a power commander to get things where they need to be.

Ok, here's a question, do I need to return the bike to stock ECU setting in order to modify it with a power commander or tuneboy? Does the PC/tuneboy take the signal from the ECU and add/subtract to it, in which case starting with a wacky Triumph ECU setting would mess up a PC map. Or does it ignore the Triumph ECU setting and use the map that is loaded in the PC? (This is the kind of info that is hard to find on the net.)

Love the fuel injection, but this certainly is a different animal than carb jetting.

The PC3 is a piggy-back type controller. It is a piece of harware that resides on the bike & is a modifier to whatever tune is in the native ECM.
Tuneboy TuneEdit is a software/ firmware programming system that allows you to modfy the ECM program directly. This operates on a cell by cell basis with values for each element of the Throttle position vs rpm for fuel & ignition. It does not matter what tune you start from as your newly modified map will now be its own custom element. It is of course easier to start with something that seems close & modify from there.
It has incredible versatility - you can modify an individual cell or a group of cells by the same increment. For example if you have a zone that is operating rich (maybe in the low rpm or mid-range area) you can group those cells and modify together in one go.
If you don't want to adjust the primary tables you can simply use the 'trim' function to adjust by a given % for the cells you apply trim to.
You are supplied with the base Triumph maps that you can start with then modify from there - or reload at any time.
Ideally you have your bike on a dyno & modify the map based on the data from that. But the system comes with a datalogger function, so even without a dyno, you can ride then make adjustments based on your accumulated plots.
Check out the Tuneboy website - lots of info there & you can even download the software & play with it without having to purchase anything. You only pay when you need to purchase the cable and the TuneEdit key for your own ECM.
You will also find out there maps already done by others that are typically available freely in 'swap' shops (like T595.net for example) The other nice thing about Tuneboy is that it will even use a PC3 map that has been developed & it will convert it for direct write to the ECM. You also get the Diagnostic screen too which displays all your bikes sensor information & error codes etc.
