Is there a way to adjust the idle speed on my 04 Daytona 955i? It idles closer to 1000 than the specified 1200 rpm and sometimes dies when I disengage the clutch at a stoplight. Other days it seems to be fine...may be temperature-related.

Thanks

I beleive the idle is set in the ecu programming.

So, does that mean it's adjustable? Or do I just have to take it to the dealer (arghhh!) and have them check it out?

Dealer, unless you have a tuneboy cable.

Dealer won't adjust the map just reload another one
Tuneboy only way.

You may have a problem with a leak - check all your hoses and see if something amiss - have you had tank off recently for any reason?

The bigger question is why do you need to adjust it? If it won't idle properly something else wrong
Can you give more details?
I had trouble with it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Outside temp was around 55 and the bike was not up to temp yet, and it died when I pulled up to a light and pulled in the clutch. It did this several times and I could tell it was idling slower than usual. After a while it stopped doing this. Did it the next time I rode it as well, but not today under similar conditions, so I don't know. Has about 9,000 miles on it and is up to date on maintenance.

It also has the intermittent dead speedometer issue, which the dealer claims to have never heard of.

Sorry - I edited my last post because I didn't adequately read all of your original one.
The 'dead speedo' has been reported as being a symptom of low battery - have you checked that out?

I haven't had the tank off lately, and I wouldn't think a disconnected vacuum hose would cause an intermittent problem, but I'll check it out.

I have heard the low battery theory before. I've always kept it on a trickle charger, but I suppose it might be giving out at 3 years. No other indication of that, though.

Thanks for the help.

An updated tune from the dealer takes care of that problem. Ever since I got it, never had the problem again.

oldyeller, No new tune required to alter the idle at the dealer's. I watched as the dealer raise mine to 1200 RPM with his gameboy. Have the idle set between 1200 and 1250 (factory spec). Closer to 1250 may help any cold start problem, but can hammer the shift into first.

Also, your tach may just be reading incorrectly at low RPM. I don't remember what my tach read before the idle speed correction, but it shows about 1050-1100 RPM now at a true 1200 RPM.
