Hello to all the Daytona owners.

I've been a Sprint ST forum member for about two years. I am seriously considering the purchase of a Daytona 955i. Five years ago I rode an '02 Daytona demo and fell in love with it. I didn't buy it because of the ergonomics - I was 60 at the time. I STILL want one, and am thinking of selling my '02 Sprint ST to buy one.

I have run the various search options and still have a couple of questions for which I would appreciate input.

1. Are there any known footpeg lowering options?

2. I have seen the CycleCat bar risers and they look like comfortable, quality items, any thoughts?

3. I'm not a huge fan of either Corbin or Sargent seats. I do like either of the Mayer products but have never seen one on a Daytona and they don't have a picture of one on their respective sites.

Among these areas the seat-to-peg reach is the most important. I have a mangled and (somewhat) restored right leg that doesn't like bumping into my butt cheeks, particularly on a 300-400 mile day.

I would appreciate ANY thoughts about making the Daytona more touring friendly and will even listen stoically to those who would make fun of a guy who wants to buy something and change it right away.

Not a direct answer to your question, but maybe you could consider another option?
Why not just invest (probably less) money into a Daytona motor & some better forks & rear suspension onto the Sprint?
That way you get the performance but with the Sprint ergo's.
Perfect combo for what sounds like your requirements.

For your bike it's pretty much just a straight motor swap then load the Daytona tune into your ECM - should not be any wiring or mechanical things to swap. Your headers/exhaust will fit but you could also consider the bigger diameter Daytona combo.

The Daytona will never be a tourer IMO and why I have the hybrid I do.

I have been thinking about putting a Daytona engine into my 00 Sprint. Would an 00-01 Daytona engine fit into the frame with no mods? What about a newer engine like an 02-04? With a higher tuned engine, I am guessing I would lose some mpgs but gain some more smiles. What a about a Speed Triple from those same years, would that fit the chassis as well?

I was in the same boat as you, wanted a Daytona when I bought the RS back in 01, but I couldn't afford the more expensive tona at the time. Last fall I finally decided to spend the money an finally picked up an 06 955. I still have the sprint RS and love it. I have not had time to make the tona ergo friendly, but in stock form it is better than most sport bikes. Being almost 45 and having back and knee problems does pose a problem with the daytona and I do have plans drawn for adjustable plates for the rearsets, but haven't had time to cut them or play with the peg height. I figure I can get an inch out of the adjustable plates. You could put on bar risers and it may bring the clip ons up to about the RS bar height, but the RS is considerably lower than the ST. The stock tona seat is absolutely horrible, at least for me and I am ordering a sargent set soon in hopes it helps a bit. What I can tell you from experience and soley my opinion is the daytona is an awesome bike, fun, fast, an handles pretty well, but from my old body with back and joint problems it is not a long distance bike "IN STOCK FORM". I do believe with a few mods it can be transformed into a long distance rider because I used my RS on quite a few certified IBA rides as well as thousands of miles near 1K days. Comparing the two bikes really isn't fair, two different animals, but if you have your hear set on one, buy it or you'll never know what you missed. I have every intention of using my tona for long distance rides after I mod what I know needs to be done for me. Getting on the RS now feels like climbing onto a BMW tourer compared to the tona and I remember when I thought the RS was pretty bad after a few long days on the road. When I get around to the seat and rearsets, I'll try and let you know how it turns out. Good luck in your decision and most of all have a blast and ride safe.

All of the FI engines 97 + are bolt-in to the various year frames (Sprints, S3's & Daytonas); depending on what year engine into which year chassis will depend on what other pieces you need to accompany just the motor. Even the S3 1050's bolt in mechanically.
For the 02+ you have an O2 sensor plus a different Air Idle Control so ideally need the headers & airbox to go with it.
In my case I swapped the complete wiring harness, ECM, Regulator, Airbox, Headers & exhaust & instuments - that was going from a 98 T509 to an O2 Daytona so quite a bit different regarding those pieces identified
There is a thread in the Modifications & Workshop Forum where ckassen has put a late model Daytona engine into his 00 Sprint (RS).

With the improved engine from the 02+, I think its worth trying to accommodate one of those if you're going to make the change at all.

I think buell pegs work and go 1" down 1" forward.....i think i might be wrong though. I agree W/ D you should just put a tona motor in the ol sprint....definately cheaper and no need to mess w/ the ergos

I have Heli Bar risers on my '05 and really like them. Also have the Triumph taller shield. I'm 5'10" and the leg position isn't bad at all.

Thanks for the responses, and keep 'em coming. I think I'm gonna put my '02 Sprint up for sale and wade in. Maybe Buell pegs, dunno. Maybe a trip to a good fabricator.

By the way, Brooksie, that's as pretty a Daytona as I've seen, though I'd like to see some relief to the black with a set of polished or silver powder-coated rims. And a 904GTS? WOW!

Life ain't fair. Guess I'll never forget what Jeff Gordon said. "if it bothers people that I'm rich, win championships and have a world-class model for a bride, then so be it." I paraphrased him, but...
