Extra Motorcycle: Stop Taunting Me!
Ah, the weather was nice, I was energized, and DEcosse showed up to deliver some much needed tools and parts. This all made today great and I got a lot of work done.

I permanently installed the steering stem onto the bike. The seals and bearings all fit and work perfectly. I modified the clip-ons so that they suck up to the top clamp and I got everything mocked up to where I could sit on the bike and get a feel for it. I must say, those controls are a heck of a lot lower than my TT600  I kinda like it though. It'll at least get my arms in better shape! I always have the option of going to handle bars, but I want to give the clip-ons a chance.

I was hoping to get my wheel yesterday, but it never came in the mail. So today I tackled the steering stop and other little things. I was originally going to go with a setup similar to DEcosse's, but after digging through my bin of cut-off material I found a piece of aluminum "C" channel that gave me an idea I didn't have access to a mill today, so it was back to the old-school days of saws, files, vise grips, and old fashioned muscle and sweat (no blood today). I had to anneal the aluminum in order to make the tight bends, but after I finished the piece I baked it in the oven at 500F and then submerged it in cold water to temper the aluminum. It's good and hard now. It turned out really nice and works dang well. I still need to paint and mount it.

Update: 4/8

Today I tackled the license plate mount. The previous owner did a really good hack-job of chopping off the back end of the undertail, so I had to build a block-off plate to stop road junk fromget getting up under the seats. While I was at that I decided to go ahead and incorporate the license plate mount into the block-off. I started off using a piece of 6061 sheet aluminum (overkill on the alloy, but I have a 4'x8' sheet). And 2 hours later... Voila! I must say, it came out even better than I hoped. I fastened a PepBoys license plate light on the underside of the plastic taillight bracket. I just need to throw some satin-black paint on the mount and it's done. HHHmmm, what's next... I hope everyone had a great bunny day :yayyy:

Update: 4/9

I finally received the headlight assembly and front fender today. I bolted them up to get a look at what it will look like. I must say, I'm digging the clip-on Speed Triple look!

It's coming along, J. !!!

Hope the wheel shows up soon - significant piece of the puzzle, although you are obviously filling the 'hole' by tackling all these other things that need to get done.

I just want to see the wheel on so you can roll it & get the thing cleaned! (you know how much that bugs me!)

Rock on ....................... :-D

p.s. have to give plug for Bomb Factory as salt of the earth - he has loaned me his muffler while mine is en-route from UK - we did all this via the phone before I even met the guy! Not much more you need to say about that!
A genuine Stand-up guy!!!
Glad to make a new friend & not just for the selfish reason stated.

Thanks for the kind words D'Ecosse. I can honestly say that I associate myself with genuinely good people, and you're not an exception. This website's given me a ton of knowledge and a great friend. As you know, the wheel is on its way so I should be able to get all that dirt/dust/grime off the old girl before you see it again; I wouldn't want you to throw up or anything uke:

Starting to look good. Have you picked a paint job for it?

Thanks. I want to stay with the Aston Green, but I've been throwing around some ideas of going with a tutone Aston Green and white--same white as the Triumph badge. Because I'm going to need to paint all the bodywork minus the gas tank, I figured I'd go ahead and paint everything rather than trying to match the tank. Those dang Triumph tank decals are a little pricey though. :hammer: Anyone know of some tutone paint job pictures I could look at?

I am getting closer day by day. The wheel should be here tomorrow, so this weekend will consist of completing the front end, bleeding the brakes, adjusting brake/clutch levers, fastening the wire looms, and washing the thing. I might get the exhaust back on and the engine fired by Sunday. We'll see how it goes; but I hope to take a ride down the street by the end of the weekend. :yayyy:

As for the paint, I am thinking about incorporating some white into the bike somewhere, but I am definitely staying with the Aston Green. I want to keep the Triumph tank decal, but all others will be removed.
