....but I am somewhat unfamiliar with them. Currently I have a Bandit which I will be keeping but trading in another bike to get this little gem I found calling my name.

Anyway, The guy wants $6500 for it and it appears to be bone stock and in very good shape with only 6400 miles. What else should I look for? Are there any recalls or major issues that I need to know about? What is the maintenance like on it? I don't like doing valve adjustments but I may have to since there isn't a mechanic or dealer within 50 miles of NW Arkansas.

The reason I am considering the Daytona is, well, I once rode a speed triple on a test ride and that motor lives in my dreams. The Bandit is a screamer but I'm really in love with what I have read about the Daytona and it just speaks to me.

What say you?

If it speaks to you, answer it.

My '06 whispers to me from the garage and then howls when I ride it.

There are few bikes with this much character available. It's well priced at $6500 and low mileage.

You can do a lot yourself on these bikes but unless you've adjusted shimmed valves before, I'd have a Triumph shop do it especially at 12K.

I bet the Bandit gets less of an outing when you have the Daytona.

ozark, All I can say is I've not regretted getting mine.

There really aren't any mechanical issues that weren't addressed by '04, much earlier actually. Well, maybe one...the front brake pistons sometimes stick causing excessive lever travel. On the two D955is here, we just extend the pistons and clean with a tooth brush and brake cleaner while changing the oil (changed at 3K mis., manual says 6K). Just a 15 minute task and easy enough to live with.

If you get it, I suggest going over the battery connections (FI engines like good current) and setting the rebound and dampening to 'N' for baselining...besides, you're gonna want to fiddle with it anyway.

Let us know.

Brad

Ozark,

I'll third the motion. I wanted a Daytona when I bought my RS back in 01, but couldn't afford it then. I finally bought an 06 D955 last October and with winter I've managed to put on 4300 miles. In that time I absolutely love the bike, truly awesome. The only problem I have is being 6'1" and long legged, the rearsets are set quite high compared to what I am used to. On rides, after a couple hundred miles my knees and hips cramp a bit, but that could be because I'm old. Buy it if you crave it. There will be no regrets.

Best bike I've ever owned and that motor is a joy! I shy away from the valve adjustments, but there is little else the bike will ever need. Weighs less than my Bonnie and has over twice the power. I put Heli risers, tall shield, Triumph stainless pipe and set it up to accomodate soft luggage. Great for scratching or touring!

Ok- I am going to see about this Bike ASAP! I may even sell the Bandit if I find myself riding Daytona more.

keep the commentary going....don't be afraid to tell me if you have had a bad experience with yours. I am pretty much sold anyway!!

you probably wont get too many bad things...from us because.....there arnt many. Yes its not going to have the outright speed of Jap bikes but, they dont have the bottom end like we do. But if that mattered you would prolly be lookin at japs anyways. Other than the brakes that brad mentioned, i have no complaints about this fine machine.
BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hammer: :hammer: :-D

Haven't had any problems with my 04 except a couple of slips out of gear (EDIT: FALSE neutrals rather than popping out of gear), but that was my fault for getting the wrong oil. Changed it to the right juice, and not a problem since. You'll love it .

I can't believe I am asking this question but...lol....

what oil do you use? More specifically, what weight?

Seriously, the reason I ask is that I have noticed a clear difference in running the recommended weight oil in my Bandit and using something different.
