I'm riding an '02 Daytona 9551 with a little over 7000 miles and no mods. This winter, when I start her up on cold mornings, the bike makes a sustained buzzing sound. Its the same buzz that happens when I first turn on the bike before starting it (electric ignition/fuel pump -correct?) The buzzing does continue for some time but doesn't seem to affect performance. Only happens on cold mornings. Is this something I need to contact my dealer about or just a cold bike trying to warm-up?

I have the same thing on my RS. Never did figure if it is the fuel pump for sure. Had a dealer tell me it was the fuel pump going out a few years ago, but as I said that was a few years ago and I finally just started ignoring it. Other than the buzzing driving me nuts until it decides to quit I haven't had an issue. The sound doesn't occur when it's warm. I figure it's something to do with the cold weather and leave it at that.

Dave, Most likely it is the fuel pump. Worry about it if it happens when it's warm.

It's not the pump

Its the Fuel pressure regulator, i had the same noise the first minute after starting, whit warm engine no problems, changed the FPR and the problem is solved

Thnaks Flatslide. It looks like a simple enough replacement job.
