First post. Stopped by the local Triumph, Ducati, Aprilia shop this afternoon to look at the 04 Daytona and all I have to say is Wow. Very nice bike. I am afraid the new bike bug has bitten.

I currently ride a 01 Aprilia Futura that I have had for over 2 years. Bought it for sport touring but because of the family I am limited to weekend rides of about 300 miles or so. In fact only used the hard bags 4 times since I bought the bike.

I am looking for something more sporty but it needs to be dependable and unique. I want to ride not wrench all the time. I have a few questions for the group. How comfortable is the bike for the a 300 mile day and possible one longer trip a year? Any real major issues that need to be addressed? Would you buy it again?

Thanks for the help.
Clint

I got my Daytona in March 04,previously I had a Sprint RS which was a good bike. The Daytona is a fantastic riding experience.Ob viously it is a sportsbike so it's not as comfy as a sports tourer. It is reasonably comfy for 300 miles. This year so far I have clocked 6000 miles. This includes 7 days in Scotland when we did 2000 miles and recently 4 days in Scotland when we did 1300 miles including coming home 400 miles in one journey. This took 8 hours and I was tired at the end of the day,as was everyone else (range of bikes).
Realibility ?
I have clocked over 50,000 miles on the 4 Hinckleys I've owned in the last 8 years with no problems.I know lots of Triumph owners and none of them have had any major problems that I am aware of.
Try a Daytona and you will be very happy, especialy with the carbon can.

Clint,
If you're looking to save some money I have an 02 955I for sale! My Rocket III just landed so I must sell cheap! It's only got 3000 miles and is still under warranty for a few months! Fly up and ride back home! I'm only asking 6k obo! It's silver with black trim and I already have the carbon fiber can and matching side panels! Will include matching helmet. Bike looks sweet. No scratches, never been dropped. Take a look at the spec's on each and let me know what you think!Something to think about!

Welcome!

I didn't know that a Futura was a problem bike, but only met a single rider who had one.

A Daytona wouldn't be the sport-touring ride that you are accustomed to, but that can be modified if you find the original seating position too aggressive.

As for dependability, over the years the issues I've witnessed have been associated with a particular engine. However, the current 955i appears to be a well-engineered platform. Like any other model, it comes down to dealer support.

Thanks for the comments. I have no problem with the current bike at all. More a case of wanting something new and not buying a sport bike to begin with. I am going to take a test ride this weekend and see what I think. If I like it then I have to get rid of mine so it will be a while before I am able to do anything. I will keep you posted.

I had 4 years and 2 Sprint ST's. These bikes were the ultimate sports tourer but now I have just bought a 955i.

So torquey, so smooth, riding position not too aggressive. Just go and buy it .................

Richard,I see you live in Shropshire. Our Triumph riding group are based around Warrington/Wigan and often go to Wales. We have an organised RAT run on Sunday 22 August, meeting 9.30am at the Poplars service area (probably McDonalds carpark) which is off the junction of M6 immediately south of Thelwall viaduct, signposted Knutsford.Or we will be at the truckstop off A49 at Prees for a coffee around 10.30 I guess.Allcomers welcome,we have a run to Barmouth planned if you fancy it.
