I have noticed some (admittedly very faint) striping and discolouration on one side of my tank. It looks like a petrol spill, but have cleaned it and it goes deeper than that - I have mentioned it to my dealer who is willing to do something about it, but needs my bike for a couple of weeks .
Has anyone else had this or similar paint finish issues - the bike is racing yellow btw.

Not sure what that is but I wonder what do you use to polish the tank?

I've noticed the paint finish on my black tank scratches very easily. Much more so than the metal tank on my D1200.

Marcus20VT, Try to find 3M Swirl Mark Remover. I use the formula for dark/black (PN 051131) on the red bike. There are other formulas and then rewax.

Nick, You're right about the plastic. The RC51 (metal tank) shows scratchs much more easily on it's plastic pieces. This seems to be the way most of the m/c manufacturers are going tho' .

Nick, I just sort of came across that rack looking for something else and thought you might be interested. Beyond that, I know nothing.

I do have the Triumph rack on the '04. I know that it shows something like five pounds as a limit, but I feel that is more what Triumph is willing to go for safety wise rather than what the rack will carry...it is a way stout unit and is flat across the top.

Brad

PS I can send pics, if you give me a bit of time, to show how/where it mounts.

Thanks for the replies - I think I might let the dealer do it (providing its covered on warrenty) as I don't want to invalidate the warrenty for the future.

OOOh How exiting = I've just been on the phone to the dealer and I am getting a brand new tank from Triumph - should be here in a couple of days
