After the first 1000 miles of break in, I am pleased with the new 955. It has some of the typical Triumph engines noise at idle, but I have grown to like that over the years. Compared to the RS this bike is night and day in differences. I do like the power of the RS better in the lower range. The Daytona seems to be a slug until after 4000rpm's and doesn't really do it's stuff until 8000 which is really not a plus in my book, but for some it may be. I'd rather have that rocket ship power around 5-6000 rpm's where the majority of my street riding is done. I don't race, so I don't really care about power delivery at the top, but it sure does scream and will be fun to let her eat once in awhile. The bike is over all more capable than I will ever dream of being in it's performance. Being fairly cool out, the Daytona out handles the old RS by scary amounts and speed, well never a question for either really . The speed of the Daytona is more than enough for me to get myself into a lot of trouble if I don't watch it close. I found myself cruising at 90 a lot and not really feeling it. So I like the looks and over all I like the performance, the tuning is lacking probably for US emissions, but that can be fixed over the winter months. Being 6'1" and long legged, I have issues with the rear sets being about 1.5 inches to high and the seat is a total F*****G loss. I don't mind the clip ons or the wind screen, but when I start doing Long distance rides on this bike next year, I will have to modify quite a few things to make it comfortable for longer hauls. I think the gearbox is smoother, but still has it's quirks like my six year old RS. It's definitely a loud change from gear to gear in most cases especially into first, but thats the endearing Triumph. The motor is much more quiet than the old motors so far and the sound is totally different. It's like it is winding up or whirring itself into a frenzy until it hits take off at 8000 rpm's and then the sound is unbelievable. Today I am pleased and have absolutely no regrets for choosing the Daytona. I waited a lot of years and thought long about which Triumph to buy and I know I made the right choice. Now it's time for the mods to begin.

triumphtimes, The gearbox will smooth out pretty well by about 3500 miles...sixth can still be notchy at times on mine tho'.

A 17T countersprocket or a 44T rear sprocket offer the best bang for the buck and help the sub 4K performance. Everything else is personal preferance.

I have to admit, I could do with a little more mid-range - as you say it seems sluggish to 7-8000 and then she flies. Mine has 2300miles on it now and the gearbox still sounds like a bag of rusty spanners  . Nah - not that bad really... :upthumb:

Overall, as you say, way more real world performance than I will realise (just ain't good enough I guess). Still, a few track days in the spring will sort that.

Cheers
Si :-D

The first mod you must go for is the Triupmh carbon 'racecan'.It helps power delivery but the main gain is the awesome noise, especially when it comes on the cam at 8000rpm.
