I have a 2000 Triumph Daytona that I love!!!! I have about 5800 miles on it and I have all factory pipes and program settings on it. At low rpm it has a real bad hesitation and sometimes I take it out of gear and it stalls. You cannot ride a bike with a bad hesitation just for saftey reasons. It sputters and then takes off quick. I have taken it to the local Triumph dealer and they suggest an offroad h-pipe(I prefer factory). Is there anything that I can do to make my bike run like it should. Please let me know and thank you for any insight!

Has the bike always done this, or is it a bad habit it just picked up recently?

The bike did it when I initially got it with a scorpion pipe on it. I was told by the dealership the pipe does not work with the bike so I bought a stock muffler and had it remapped. It seemed to do good but after a few months was slowly getting worse. Now it is real bad.

sounds like a tuneup might be in the cards. Get a new set of plugs and see if that cures it. Also, isn't there an o2 sensor on the older bikes? IF that is going south, it could be trimming your fuel map and causing your issue.

No, there's no o2 sensor on a 2000 daytona. . It sounds like the classic "CO set too low". When it was re-tuned, did the dealer stick a gas analyzer down the pipe or not?
If not, find out why. If they don't have one, find another dealer. Bring the bike to them COLD. Leave overnight if you have to. Have them re-insert the tune, re-set the CO and the TPS.
Cheers, Lee S.

A Triumph dealer will have a device that they can connect to the bike's electronic harness that will download data and tell them if anything is out of whack with tune, bad sensors, etc, etc I can't imagine why that wouldn't tell you anything that you need to know- that and a decent mechanic willing to spend some time and really help you.
FWIW, my bike, also a '00 Daytona, will sputter if I try to accelerate when the engine is spinning anything below 3000 RPM. Above 3000, a whack of the throttle and it takes off like a rocket. Your engine will go to 10,500 RPM, no need to lug it below 3000 RPM. Lugging a motor will do more damage to it than running it at a higher speed. Even in traffic, I keep it between 3000 and 5000.
I'm also curious about your mechanic telling you that a certain pipe won't work with the bike, period. I always thought that you could tune the bike to work with any pipe.
It seems that you're willing to spend some money to solve the problem (bought a pipe, then bought a stock pipe, etc). Have you heard of a TuneBoy? It's an aftermarket device that connects to the harness like the triumph factory unit, and allows you or your mechanic to fine tune every aspect of the bikes performance, create and save custom tunes (with a PC), as well as reading any error codes generated by the engine. It's like a Powercommander on steroids, and in fact, you can use it to download Powercommander maps to your bike as well.
Having said all of that, though, your bike is stock, so it should run perfectly. Have you checked all of the obvious stuff, like fouled spark plugs, clogged air filter, bird's nest in the exhaust, clogged fuel filter, water in the gas, etc, etc? Is it burning oil, is the exhaust smoky?

I have just had it tuned at the beginning of this year as well as paid for new plugs. I might have to look into the tuneboy for my bike. I have taken the bike to Joes motorcycle in Dayton and it seems as if they cannot figure it out or have the time to deal with it. I might have to take to another dealer. I just want it to run good. I do keep my RPM,s up high but when you are at a stop light and right when you put a load on it, thats when it seems to sputter then take off after about 2500 RPM. Its no problem when I am riding, but it is embarrassing when I am at a light and it sputters. Thanks for any input.
