Hey toesnose, looking at adding a Sprint or Daytona to my stable and noticed your post while reading the triple forums. Not sure how far you like to travel on your day trips, but here is some of my favorite road info without going too far west for you.

From I-40/Hickory go N on 321 to Lenoir. North of town take E 268. Beautiful road and countryside. Wilksboro area has numerous options. Take 16 or 18 or ? N up to the Blue Ridge Pkwy or numerous two lanes around the state parks and mountain communities. Take the Blue Ridge all the way to VA and come home on Interstate or drop down I-77 and catch 70 across from Statesville over to Salisbury and then ride around the lakes. Short hop to Apex/Cary/Raleigh from there.

You can have more/less Interstate depending on how long you like the trip to take. I like 200-300 rides for day trips and you can easily modify to your taste. I don't like Interstate as a general rule.

The leaves are starting to change color, it's beautiful. If you have more time, I can give you some great loops a bit farther to the west.

Ride safe. Cheers!

Tried e-mail, but filter here wouldn't allow me.

The run west from your area makes for a long day. There is M/C only campground not far from Asheville and great camping in Hot Springs (cabins available). Anyways, here is info for a Very nice loop(s). BTW, 80 is like a mini Dragon run.

I-40 exit 100/Morganton, turn rt and go N appx 4 miles to get to 181. Turn left/W and enjoy.

At intersection 221 turn left/S and go toward Marion. As you enter Marion good area for food/fuel.

Intersection 221/70, turn rt/W onto 70.

Intersection 70/80 is just a few miles. Turn rt/N on 80. Great road, pretty tight in places.

Pull out at top of hill where 80 crosses Blue Ridge Pkwy. Which way???

#1, shorter ride.
South on BR Pkwy. Mount Mitchell great view/food. Take Pkwy to Swannanoa/Asheville area.

(Myers Triumph in Asheville is great shop. I-40 Exit 51, mile S on rt.)

Exit Pkwy. You will be on 74, this a nice ride to Bat Cave/Chimney Rock area. Nice road, OR go E on I-40 to Black Mountain. Exit 64 turn S/right. Just past McD/Denny's etc., turn Left onto 9. NICER! Take to Bat Cave/Lake Lure.

From Lake Lure area, take 9 S or 74. You could vector back to 40 or drop down to 85, best to check your map for best choices.

Option#2.
Continue on 80 (goes under BR Pkwy) and follows the river. Great road w/couple tight turns. Micaville turn Rt run w/19E and Left again 80.

RedHill 197/395 to I-26.

I-26 S to Mars Hill. Good food/fuel in town. Take 213 through town.

213 to 70/25 turn Rt to wards Hot Springs.

209 S from Hot Springs. GREAT ride all the way down to I-40.

Which way to go??? From this area you can continue up near Maggie Valley, BR Pkwy, Dragon, etc. Check you map for best choice.

You have a good area to stay over and make a run TN, GA or ??? for a nice 2 day. This hasn't touched much, but these roads all have little loops off of them as you can see on your map. Not too much law enforcement, minimal gravel has ever been encountered. Lots of great views to enjoy with as little Interstate as you have the time for. I put 6k on my bike since the end of May and you will see why a "triple" needs to join the BA.

Ride safe,

Let me know if more info would help.
