Well I decided to give myself a bit more leg room on the Daytona this last week. I had heard the Buell lightning pegs were a good way to go for about $35. My local HD shop had them in stock so what the heck.
The first thing you will notice in they are a "snug" fit. Left side took a tap or two to line up the holes, shove the pin through and were good to go. OK, 2 minutes more and done. Well not quite that easy the right side was a little tighter and required an extra "tap." That is the dumb $70 dollar mistake. The lower tab went bouncing across my floor from the right control plate (I now know the official term for it) as I gave it a firm wrap. I also found out that triumph makes 2 different "control plates" for the '04 Daytona. One has the tabs affixed and one has a mounting hole. My dealer ordered the wrong one.
So, if you are like me and get stubborn when working on your bike, order an extra control plate. Or you can hit the top side of the Buell peg with a belt sander (1/16") and save $70.
All in all, it's a good mod for an extra 3/4-1" of leg room. The shift lever will need a little tweek to get right.

Say, that's pretty cool! Who'da thought?

I put Lightning pegs on my Firebolt for a little bit, but ended up taking them back off (I had grown more used to the original, knee-breaking pegs than I had thought.) The Daytona is VERY roomy compared to the 'bolt, but now I wish I had saved the lower pegs just to try it out. I, however, am not that clever...
