Before I get flamed...I did search through the forum for the question I'm about to ask and didn't get as direct an answer as I was hoping for...

How often do y'all change your oil?

I've always been a firm believer in changing it every 2000 - 2500 miles and have for all my bikes historically. However, I was recently discussing my maintenance habits with a local dealer and he told me there's not need to change the oil on the Triumphs until 6000 because of the full synthetic...confused, I went back to the MOM and sure enough, it says every 6000 miles. This seems contrary to everything I've ever believed about oil changes...I don't even let my truck go longer than 3000. So....thoughts, comments suggestions. I still don't have a problem with changing the oil as frequently as I do, but I'd like to hear other's opinons.

With the new synthetic oils, You don't need to change like you used to. I have used synthetics on my cars and replaced every 5000 miles, and haven't had any problems. And when it comes out, it doesn't look all that bad, as with the older conventional oils did. My rule of thumb is every 5000 miles or 6 months. I do this in my bike now, the bike I had before, My 90 ford ranger and my 06 Mustang(This I have only done once. 6 months came up)

I make it a habit to change the oil at the end of the season before I put the 'tona up on its stands for the winter (***** that season!). That way I start next spring with fresh oil and nothing nasty percolates over the winter.

I thought the manual recommends 6000 miles/10,000 kilometres or one year (whichever comes first)? My owners manual is in the garage and I am too lazy to check the Triumph site at the moment to confirm this. Notwithstanding the endurance of synthetics, I still think it is better to be safe than sorry. One extra oil change in a season is still cheaper than an engine rebuild.

I guess I'll let this round get closer to 6000 before I make the change. Old habits die hard I spose. Thanks for responses.
