Hi guys....new member.....mechanically illiterate, so please bear with me!
I have a Triumph Daytona 900 Super 3. 1994. 32,000 miles. I've owned others before now with no problem.
This one has a stalling problem. Usually at lights, after a few miles. It will also sometimes simply refuse to even turn over on the button. No churning.... no clicking.....zilch. Five minutes later.....off it goes, without a hitch.
Reading through the forums here, I'm drawn to the ignition coils as being a suspect. Not sure how many there are, or cost to replace. But any suggestions welcomed.
the OTHER problem is more mundane.... the black round plastic fuel tap has split inside.... so it no longer turns the fuel*****. Until I can source a new one, does anyone know which way I should turn it with a wrench to have it ON....Im baffled! lol. Many thanks in advance for wisdom!

baffled,
The coils could certainly be suspect, there are 3 of them on the Super III, one for each cylinder. Remove the tank and there they are, attached to the sides of the backbone frame. Don't know why you get nothing at the starter button though, could be ignition switch or the starter button is corroded inside the switch pod.
Although your bike's symptoms might also be a fueling problem. Just a thought... have you checked that the vacuum line isn't pinched 'tween the frame and tank and that it's firmly attached.
The only other thing I can think of is the ECU (igniter) might be bad or have a loose connection, located under the seat.

The fuel tap (common problem)... there are three positions: clockwise they are Prime 12:00 (straight up), Run 3:00, Reserve 6:00 (straight down), hope that makes sense.

thanks charlie.....3pm position it is!
Im going to replace the coils and sensor...and see if that works......fingers crossed.
The vacuum line is fine..... so that isn't it.
I'll keep it posted here if it works just for others who may have a similar problem.

when the needles/seats go out, a small amount of fuel overflows and dribbles into the carb throat, not a problem at speed, but at idle it can bog up the engine causing rough running or even a stall.

I get a dead Super III starter frequently when A. the neutral light is not illuminated (even if the tranny is in neutral) and/or, B. the side stand is down, or C. the ignition switch needs a jiggle. Seems like I had to reinstall a clutch lever safety switch once also. Lots of built in safety to keep you from starting your bike in gear, even if it isn't. Sidestand ditto.

On my Thunderbird, it went dead when there was light corrosion in the handlebar switch, I scraped the little copper point contacts under the red button and it worked fine once again.

Petcocks are shared among many models, I picked up a used Sprint one for $25
