So I went for a ride ALL day on Sat. with my brother on his speed triple and my buddy on his Duc. Rode over to my friends house and shut the bike down while we planned out our route. Went back to the bikes and the ***** thing would not start. It would crank and crank and crank but it would not fire up. Finally after about 5 minutes it started and was fine. No I did not give it any gas if that's what you are thinking, I know not to do that. So it ran fine, we stopped at a rest stop about an hour and a half later, go out, try to start it, same thing. It was more embarassing than anything. Everywhere we went we drew a big group of on lookers checking out our bikes. The only mods I have are a 2 bros. slip on and a power commander III. I had the bike out all day on Sunday and no problems what so ever, but I do notice it does take a while to start. It has never just fired right up ever since I have owned it. Anyone else have this problem???

Sort of...
First of all, I'm not sure how long you're owned your bike so please believe me when I tell you that I'm not trying to insult your intelligence or anything. Besides, I've made this same mistake when I first got my Daytona so I've been there too. To start the bike, the clutch handle has to be pulled in and the kick-stand has to either be up, or down with the gearbox in neutral. Sorry if you already knew that.
If it's not that, then let me ask you this: Did your ride consist of dramatic changes in altitude (ie; did you start a sea level and head up to the mountains)? My Daytona suffers from a little of what I like to call 'altitude sickness'. Hard to start and the idles REALLY SLOW until it dies...
Just my initial thoughts but that might be it...

Did you buy the bike with the PC already installed? (I'm curious about the "not starting right since I've owned it" part.)
The Power Commander could be be giving you warning signals that it's about ready to stop working.
Same thing happened to me.
I discovered what the problem was when I was going to have my PC re-mapped to get rid of a flat spot. Surprisingly, the tuner had trouble re-programming the PC. They checked the entire PC system and traced it back to the Power Commander unit itself. You could either have a bad lead on the Power Commander, or the whole unit is getting ready to go. Not uncommon.
My tuner replaced the (out of warranty) Power Commander with a new one (PC III USB), and my infrequent but annoying ignition problem completely disappeared.
Be warned, the tuner told me of a couple of stories where PC's stopped working and the bikes wouldn't start at all.
Good Luck

I have had the bike for over 2 years. I know about the clutch, kickstand, etc. I just installed the Power Commander about 4 weeks ago or so. So even with nothing installed, it still had problems starting even when it was bone stock. I was riding in IL so everything is very flat here so no huge altitude changes. I guess I have to take it to the dealer to see what they can find.

My guess is that it's your plugs. My S3 started doing the same thing to me a little while ago. Initial cold start was fine, but a warm/hot restart would just crank over. I would have to wait a minute, turn the key to put the electrics on, wait a few moments, and then turn the ignition on. That usually did it.
I just changed out my plugs and the problem seems to be gone.

Sounds about right. I need to change the plugs. That is what my first hunch was, but the bike only has 3,000 miles on it so I don't know why the plugs would be fouled up already. I also called power commander and they said it could be that the throttle position in the starting mode might need to be zero'd out. The bike was having problems starting before the PCIII but I am going to hook it up to my lap top and check it out anyways.
Thanks Guys.

Don't count out the plugs just because it only has 3,000. The first time I changed my S3's plugs I could believe the corrosion on them. If any water even looks down their the corrode. I pulled out 2 rusty plugs out of 3.
Ever since then my bike never gets sprayed with water when washing, a soaked sponge only. When I changed my plugs again recently they were fine.
Be very careful when you wash these bikes. Oh, and be very careful when you disconnect the fuel connectors at the full pump when removing your tank. If you still have the plastic connections they break very easily.

Are all you guys using the 10 % ethanol gas? I know here in Mass, thats all we can get. My 06 Speed triple has the horrible take 5 minutes to start problem too. I think the gas might be causing it, or at least making it worse....as It never seemed this bad till recently (when all gas stations switched to the 10% eythanol fuel)
Plug change did nothing to help it. A hotter plug actually helped a bit. Still tweeking with my tuneboy to try and get it better.
Hope this helps.

My t595 did the same thing after a run and hasnt started since. Changed the plugs, filters, oil blah blah and still nada.
I dont have a PC on it, is that recommended? I see a lot of people post with them on and i was wondering how it helps the bike out.
I only sponge wash mine ;-)
