A few months ago, after my bike came out of storage, I took it out for a ride, and almost immediately smelled a lot of gas (gasoline, not beans). I thought it was a byproduct of the long storage, but a car driving by started pointing at the engine frantically. When I pulled over, gas was pouring from the right side, over the exhaust and evaporating in a nice explosive mist. I shut down, and pushed home (it sucked), put it on a trailer and drove it to a dealer. Turns out there was recall that I never heard about, that the plastic/ nylon connectors coming out of the gas tank have a tendency to break. They replaced the broken plastic connectors with nice stainless ones for free and I was on my way.
Fast forward to this past weekend, every time the bike heated up, I started getting a steam enema from under the left side of the seat. I knew that the radiator overflow tank sits down there, and when I checked it, not one, but both 90 degree plastic connectors on the tank were broken, and boiling antifreeze had been showering down the side of the bike.
So, my question is, what other plastic connectors or parts are going to fail?
Anybody else have these issues with Triumph using cheap fluid connectors that break?
I guess I had this coming leaving my bike in storage for 5 years, but I'd just as soon replace anything else that may fail now, rather than 50 miles out in the canyons. What else should I check or look for?
thanks-
