Had an interesting ride into work this a.m....

First speedo readout on '02 955i registers 0 mph (this for about 5 miles). Then, speedo and all electrics go dead, fuel deliver cuts out, and bike goes dead. Roll to a stop, turn bike off for 15 seconds, turn key on and all is okay again -- bike fires up and speedo now shows proper speed.

What is going on here? New battery installed two weeks ago and have ridden with no problems until this a.m.

Ideas?

Thanks!

I had almost the exact same prob about a month ago.. dealer couldn't figure it out for 6 days.. they replaced the battery 3 times, and it was still messing up.

Turns out it was a faulty wiring harness.. now I don't have any probs.

Hope that helps! Good luck.

Almost the exact same thing happened to me a couple months ago - I replaced the battery and it seems to have solved the issue, but she's due for her 12K mile service soon, so I'll have it fully checked out then.

Check out my experience here:

Thanks dml955i. I'm fairly sure it's not the battery, as I was having a similar "weird electrical" issue when I first got the bike back in June and replaced the battery then. The new battery doesn't seem to have alleviated the issue. I wish it would be that simple (and inexpensive).

Just as an aside note: if I don't get a PCIII (or Tuneboy???) on this puppy soon, the low end stop & go fuel delivery blippy-ness is going to drive me NUTS!!!!!! RRRRRRRRgggggggggg

stellasue, Make sure your battery connections are tight. The '02 D955i here is especially sensitive, preferring to die rather than light the MIL.

Generally the 0 speedo reading seems more common with a low battery or corroded connection...check/clean the engine grounds. There's an ECU patch to stop the speedo self check.
