Don't know if its the same in the US but over here all bikes since 04 have had the lights hardwired on. Now I'm not stupid and can just about remember to turn my lights on so I don't need the nanny state to leave them on for me all the time! Also It seems daft to suck more juice out of the battery on start up by having the lights on all the time. Wouldn't do it in my car so why would I on my bike.

Anyhow the question part is... I have fitted the switch gear off a pre 04 Speed triple. Identical to my 955 exept that it has a switch so I can use my brain and choose to have the lights on. Will it cause any issues? Will the battery overcharge if I ride without the lights? Though the "pass" switch that flashes main beam doesn't work the rest seems fine. Just need to know if I'll kill the battery if I ride her. Over to you guys.

( maybe not such a quick question due to my advancing grumpy old man state )

The voltage regulator should keep the battery from being overcharged...I don't think you should have any problems.

Now, a couple of questions for you...

I can't find any reference to headlight switches on US models, regardless of year. I'm thinking they are hardwired prior to importing. I'd like to have the option of switching my headlights for the same reasons you stated. What's the availability of the switch you used over there?

You said the 'pass' switch doesn't work...do you think it's a faulty switch or a difference in the harness?

I like having my light on at all times, just from the safety aspect. The thing I don't like is how most car manutfacturers are now doing "daytime running lights" We used to stand out in the daytime, and now we're lost again....

P.S. with some creative wiring, you should be able to link the pass light to the lighting harness by way of a "loop" that would, or should allow you to flash them via the pass trigger.

Or maybe not. I am not an electrical pro, but it sounds feasible

Ok we'll ride it and try it.

The switch I used is a standard left hand Triumph switch cluster from a UK spec Speed triple 2000 model. It clips straight into the harness and no mods are needed. think the harness might be different re the pass switch either that or the relays are different. Not electrical minded so not sure. To be honest If I want to flash my lights I'll just flick em on so no great probs.

Thanks
