Hey everybody, glad to be here. Heres my story with the Daytona and if anyybody has any ideas to help with my little problems i would really apreciate it.

Bought my t595 two months ago and its a love affair. Although its been a bit of a trying love. In short it overheats.

me and my roomate had a look (he has a daytona too) and the radiator was full of leaves and gunk. The Fan makes a sort of a "kkrrrr" noise and as it overheates it goes on for a long time after parking the bike....which, drained my battery.
So, i tried to put in some coolant (this is when i noticed the leaves) and bought a Battery tender. Sent the bike to the shop. They told me that the thermostat and the fan are busted. I could see the fan and its burned, deforemd and choped (thus the noise hitting the grill). They did a radiator flush and changed the thermostat. The price for a new fan (just the fan) they said was 280 $ :???:

So i skipped that and hoped the bike would feel a little better and i could grab a fan off ebay and mount it myself. I took the bike from the shop today, and in Los Angeles traffic at 2 pm with the weather also being nuts it overheated again. When i hit a stretch of open road and get on high gear to cool it down, it does cool down. So this is after 350 $ at the shop that didnt solve anything for me.

Now the radiator that i have, is not factory. Its actually made of Two radiators attached,..(i can post a pic if you guys would like to see). Custom from the guy i bought the bike. The mechanic told me to take it to a radiator shop and have them open it up. The other thing they noticed is that it wouldnt take the full amount of coolant that it should,..more like a quarter of that measure. I knew a new radiator would be expensive to replace , but i didnt think it would be 700 $ as they mentioned.

So i am checking a couple of banged radiators that are going now on ebay :

Fan on Ebay

Radiator on Ebay

but im not sure thats the part that will fit, or if its all i need to replace the whole radiator.

What do you make of this situation? I would love to hear from some of you experienced guy. Anything would help as i would really like to fix my bike and have it be worry free at least for a while. You know when you buy a new toy and its sort of broken from the beginning,...it ruins all the fun

Im all ears,...thanks for reading

cheers

EK

what is the highest temp that you have seen. I know that my fan stays on a while after the bikes been running hot, but never any battery problem do you know if the battery in the bike was new or not. Also the fan might not have been spinning fast enough if it was hitting something.
I would def replace the fan. And get a stock radiator.

Replace the melted blades on your fan with one of these;

Seems odd it wont take all the coolant.

Cost, plus the fact the guy working on your bike gets paid the most when he's fast rather than thorough is why I like to do my own maintenance.

Perhaps the ebay radiator is in order.

Placed the order for the aluminium fan, thank you for the link.

I would definitely like to change to stock radiator. Do you guys have some links ? Or it will have to be the 700 dollars order from Triumph UK ? If that sounds the correct money then i guess ill take it,..but i would have preferred smth cheaper : )

As far as highest temp,..i dont have the digital temp reader. Mine is a 97 t595, but i would say it goes up to 75-80 percent of the way to the red line. It gave me a big burn on my left thigh one day in a long hot ride.
My fan stays running much longer then my friends 955i after we have had the same ride. As for the battery, it does "seem" new.

Understand the point about doing your own maintenance work,...learning every day. im a new-ish rider, but determined.

I will put in the new fan and see how that helps. If not then it would have to be the whole radiator...any sugestions on that? or just keep my eyes peeled on ebay ? Does that ebay radiator look too banged up? or acceptable shape ?

too many questions i know....

I'm sorry, I meant maybe generic for an ebay radiator; I see them there often. That particular one looks waaaay to knackerd to gamble on.

Why $700 for a radiator? I bought one from the stealership last year for $570.

I can promise you from the pic that radiator fits a 02 ---> daytona. I had mine off last week and know they're identical. Whether it would fit your bike I don't know.

PS: Munroe Motors in San Franscisco is a reputable shop, don't know who you got in LA

PPS: These things rock, and they're priced well

Ok then ill hold off on the radiator till smth better comes along on ebay,..if not, to the stealership for a new one.

Btw, that i would consider the word of the day. Hadnt heard it before.

On a totally unrelated note, since you made me spill my drink with that one, here is the expression of the week (caught this dialogue yesterday at a store....asian guy behind counter, latin customer) :

Customer : How are you doing tomorrow ?
Seller guy (without batting an eye): I dont know.

thanks again for the advice guys. I will let you know as soon as i get the new fan. Im sure i will have a lot more questions.
