I purchased a used 95 Daytona 900-bike had 8,000 miles, looks like showroom condition-just awesome. Only flaw is that there is no 6th gear?!?

The bike functions completely normal otherwise-5th gear gets up to 100 mph (and still has more room to go.) Since the bikes functions "normally" I never noticed untill thorough reading of spec sheet that transmission is 6 speed.

Any other Daytona owner have this issue? Is there any explaination for this? Is this a gear shift adjustment issue? Is there a way to tell if 6th was removed? or is broken? Any idea cost to fix?

Basically, have no idea where to start with this-appreciate any advice!
Thanks.

To old for me to know...sorry.

100 in 5th??? Mine does that in 2nd!

I found I had to concentrate on the gearing when I first got mine. Also the jump form 5th to 6th is practically non-discernable to the ear and the tach. To be honest I thought I only had 5 when I first got it!

If I recall correctly (and there's a good chance that I'm not) - didn't Speed Triples only come with 5 speeds?

If so, it's possible that the drivetrain could've been swapped....

Hey Daytona Charlie,

I have the original 1995 factory owner's handbook which states that the Super 3, Speed Triple, Trident 900, Trident 750, Daytona 1200, and Daytona 900 are all equiped with 6 speed transmissions. The handbook even breaks out the gearing ratios. In fact, everything I've read on the web states the 95 model is a 6 speed.

Are you sure you're reading a 95 brochure?

Or is it possible that Triumph made production line changes to the 95 models?

Completely baffling!

DC, thanks for adding pic of brochure.

What transmission does the brochure list for 95 Daytona 900-5 speed as well?

DC,

1995 Super 3 is seperate production model vs Daytona 900. Same chassis, but modified engine. I believe Super 3 engine had additional throttle ports vs. 900 engine.
(Stock HP on 900 is 98, vs 115 on Super 3.)

Thanks for forwarding on all this info to date.

Now beginning to think that inspite of what my owners manual states-may be originally a 5 speed after all.

Will check engine casing for gear info as next step.
Cheers!

FWIW my '94 D900 had a 6-speed in it.

Would find a false neutral between 5/6 if you were not deliberate with your shift, or if the linkage needed adjustment....

Hey YYZSKI,

What are characteristics of false neutral?

When attempting to shift up from 5 to 6 There is just no gear to move into and automaically goes back to 5-meaning that do not have to downshift to get back into 5th.
