Ok, my salesman at the dealership said that I looked frightened before I took off with the bike. That was an understatement, but after riding it for about 10 minutes it was like synergy! *****! What an incredible bike! It's just so stable! I took the freeway into Boston from Cycles128 in Beverly, Mass, and although I never exceeded 80mph, I could feel that there was almost an infinite amout of angry beast waiting to jump out and open a whole can of whupass! I focused on keeping my wrists flat and applying and decreasing throttle in a steady manner. Guys, I felt like I was flying, and the bike was so responsive. I can't imagine what it will be like when I feel more comfortable on the bike.
I must confess that I grabbed the bars so tightly within the first few minutes that I began to loose the feeling in my hands. As I relaxed, I was able to grab the bars more lightly with excellent control.
I took a turn that almost caused me to***** myself, but the bike just kept leaning and stuck to the road as if attached to rails. Although I almost panicked, I continued to apply slow and steady throttle and left the brakes alone. OMG!!!
I wonder if letting the bike run really works on resetting the computer. The bike, with only 2k miles, seems a bit rough. Should it idle at a steady rate? and at what rpm?
For those of you that ride these beasts, I tip my hat off to you. It's like straddling an agile tomahawk. You guys ROCK!!!! BTW thanks for all of the advice on the gear. I'm all set, and I'm due to take a motorcycle safety course next weekend.
Trembling,
James

The ECU doesn't actually reset, but it does adapt to a small extent. The bike should idle at 1200 (+/- 50) RPM, but can sound a bit erratic.
Be sure to change oil/filter, check tire pressure, chain adjustment/lube and any other item you can think of. Congrats on your new bike.

I know what you mean , I still clearly remember the first ride on mine....I also still remember the LAST ride I had. Watch out for those darn cagers and try to let your smile rest a little now and then. My Daytona is sitting in the garage all fixed up and I can't ride it yet...AAAARrrrggghg!. Glad you like your bike. :-D

Welcome, and as said, I too remember riding my bike for the first time. It was their last one and was the demo. I got back, and they could tell, because they said they could get me a good deal since I was interested. a couple hours later, I was riding it home. They are a fun bike and a distinctive one. Enjoy.
Fltaspin, glad to hear the bike is up, now just waiting to see you back on. Best wishes.

Just like you I came back grinning as wide as the fairing after a test ride - that was after testing a new Suzuki SV100s and a Honda Blackbird - I knew it was the Daytona I wanted even though it was second hand - it has that certain factor. Happy Riding and above all fun!!

I know the feeling well, when I demo'd mine I wondered how you could keep the thing under 60mph. Bought it there and then when I got back. Sadly chucked it down the road in France last week and wrote it off.
Happily just bought one of the last new ones to replace it with. :-D
Enjoy, the feeling never goes away!

Not so bad Dad, a few cracked ribs and a bit bruised but nothing serious. The worst was the damage to the bike, was a bit pissed about that. The new bike will make up for it though. Was entirely my own fault, washed the front end out by braking on a gritty corner. Stupid Panic reaction.
