I was riding through a bunch of neighborhoods the other night scouting for possible new house and I realized I was getting more than a bit warm on the inside of my thighs. Looked down and the temp was around 102C. It would go up to 104 and the fan would kick on (used to do so at 103, maybe this is the TOR program change), and kick off around 99/100.

This is not the big issue though the fan seems to take longer to cool temps than it did late last year. The big issue is I got out on some open road and tooled along at low rpm about 45 and this normally brings temps down to high 80's in short order, but it succeeded in only bringing it down to low 90's and it took almost 5 miles to do this.

I don't know how to check coolant level in this bike because I don't have the manuals so that could be part of it (low coolant), or even all of it, but can anyone suggest anything else to look at while I am at it? Also, is there a bleed procedure for the cooling system? :???:

take off the rear seat to fill the coolant, to check the level you will have to take off the front seat and there is a little hash mark on the coolant tank. If it is full you might have a bubble in your line. Get someone to help you hold the bike upright, straight or even a little bit over towards the exhaust side of the bike. Reach up in between the front/side fairing and slowly loosen the cap on top of the radiator. Don't do it right after you have run the bike. Let it cool a bit or it might burn you, but don't do this on a completely cold motor. If you have some shop gloves it would work perfect. Don't take the cap all the way off. Just crack it in order to let the air out. Then tighten back up, top off the coolant and go ride and see if it works.

I would do a flush and refill PRONTO!!

I was shocked how much 'crud' was in my cooling system.

You might be too.............

I have noticed when the ambient temperature is around 100 F the temperature readout when at a steady cruise is 192 compared to 182 when the ambient is 85 to 90 F. I have also read about overheating when riding through cities and the ambient temperature is +110 F. Check your coolant but be aware that the ambient temp. is a factor.

Additives will make it run cooler but they break down and may cause problems if not flushed and replaced frequently.

And you live in Dayton - use F not C.
