Okay so I noticed the '05 995i's go for next to nothing with zero finance. So I thought about trading my '04 Speed Four in for one.

What I want to know before I go out and test the bike (never ridden one!) is the following.

How would you rate it in sport<->touring scale?

As the S4 is very capable on a race track and I'm very happy with its sporty nature and nice and light handling I wouldn't want to trade it in for anything less fun. Yes, I know it's got a bunch more power, but actually the S4 has plenty enough too. What I'm mostly concerned about is the cornering, the weight of the bike and (I still must stress it) overall fun factor.

Share your knowledge!

a good buy is great....as long as it fills your needs. the 955 is way heavier so its not gunna compare to the smaller s4. it is going to make a great touring bike....better suspension for the open road...yet still capable of the track....if ya are looking for a track bike stand in line for the 675....it depends on a few things....your riding style....weight, whats it gunna be used for.........sounds like you have the priorities straight....its a great bike but maybe not what ya want....you are going to have a blast riding it though..

Thanks for your input.

The other bikes I'm looking at are 675 and ZX-6R, but they both cost quite a bit more than the 955i. But I guess I'll see if I like it tomorrow...

I would put some serious thought into your intended use of the bike. I bought my 02 in August. The main reason was to have something a little different than all the others out there. Then I started hitting the track. My buddies have quite a mix of bikes: RSV-Rs, RS-250, SV-650, SV-1000, and an R6. The 955i definitely has the most power and top speed, but that where the benefits end. I had a suspension tuner take a look at it and he recommended I have the forks redone and at a minimum replace the rear spring, at 6'2 and 225lbs dry, it isn't the most nible of creatures on the track. On the street, it is definitely a great machine. If you are thinking track, then look at the 675. My two cents.

I weigh 250 lbs. and I've seen 150 mph indicated on my 05 955i. Can't do that on any other Triumph. My Speed Triple got close with an indicated 148 mph.
I wouldn't pick one over the other. They are both unique bikes and loads of fun to ride.

I just bought my 03 955i and I love it. I absolutely love the thing. I have spent most of my riding on jap sports, and I must say that I am forever a Brit convert.....well, actually I married an English lass before buying the Trumpet, but that's a whole different story, and this bike has totally changed my views on what a sport bike can and SHOULD be.

If you can afford it, buy it. You will not be disappointed!

HTH,
Ski

The 955i may suprise you at the track. If you use a liberating Triumph silencer, it really gets more down low. The mid-range driving out of corners is a great equalizer. Granted, it is no GSX-R 1000, but then what else is. It is more sport focused than the ST as far a riding position, but the stock bike is still a great open road touring bike as well. The reason I got the '05 this year was the high level of all round performance, I love the 955 triple motor, insurance is not bad on it 'cus it's under 1000cc and the price was the clincher. You won't be in WSB this year, but it is a fantastic street bike. Maybe next year or '08 the long rumored 1050 Daytona. If all round street perfomance is what you want, jump now. Otherwise, it's a gamble shoot as to what (or if) the big Daytona will be upgraded.

Mmmmmm....1050 Daytona......as long as they don't pull that goofy looking Speed Triple "mini tail" cosmetic thing, I'll be buying one!
