i heard that it was a "parking light" when you turn off the bike...then turn the handlebar full left then turn the key to the lock position, there is one "click" left past the lock position. the bike will be locked and everything off except the little light up front and one in the rear brake light. i heard that you do this to signify that you are going into somewhere but will be out shortly. that way the bike is locked but has an indicator that you will return shortly. thats what i have been told ....all my Triumphs have had this feature....

Cool thanks. You have confirmed that this bulb is useless to me. Now all I need to do is figure why electric fans stay on after you turn the bike off... How much hotter is any part of the bike going to get when combustion is no longer taking place. I rewired that problem out of my last bike, but i would bet doing so on the tona would cause a fault code to trigger...

what would be the purpose of rewiring the fan? it doesn't run for that long after the bike is off so why would you?...its not gunna drain the battery as little as it runs...

the position light is supposed to tell the veiwer which way the bike is positioned, like on a boat, to tell what direction it is going. i think that describes it the best

nyctester, Coolant is still circulating for a short time after the engine is turned off...the hot coolant in the engine displaces the cooler (by comparison) coolant in the radiator. The after running of the fan equalizes coolant temperature. It's a good thing.

As for the position light? I haven't had many bikes (I just keep my good choices a long time) the only street bike without some form of position lighting had a four way flasher.

I believe the parking light is or was required in the U.K.

It has been referred to as a "City Light". In Europe, when they pull into a pedestrian area where the street lights are bright, the head lights were to be turned off not to be a hazard for the pedestrians. They have a different light control switch on the European models. By law in the US you have to have the headlight on. This was explained to me by a friend from Liverpool.

Keep the shiny side up and the rubber down.
