I had been having an issue with my brakes. They've been feeling kind of 'spongy' lately. The mechanic told me that Daytona calipers get gummed up after about 6k miles. Have you all had the same experience?

I'm just trying to figure out if it might be a better idea to upgrade the brakes and be done with that issue. Any thoughts fellas? :???:

fivehundo, Yeah, from what I've read it seems to show up on about 50% of Triumphs. The fix is easy and only takes about 30 mins. or so.

Remove the front calipers, pull the pads and using the brake lever get all four pistons in each caliper to extend and clean with spray brake cleaner and a toothbrush.

After doing this on the '02, the pistons likely will come out randomly. Clean, push back into the caliper and hold them in the caliper while a helper works the brake lever to coax the rest of the pistons out. The '02's brake is now very firm and has been so about three-four weeks. BTW, no bleeding was required.

I haven't heard of this procedure having to be repeated, so hopefully it's a one time thing. Again a big thanks to the Sprint folks for cross posting this info. :chug:

After 6k miles?!?!? Wow! that's not a whole bunch of ride time.

Any thoughts on upgrading to an aftermarket kit? I didn't see an application from Brembo but the mechanic told me that there was another company that did a setup with 3 piston calipers. Do you guys know of anything like that and if so, do you think its worth it?

I found this kit on the net. I haven't been able to find anybody that has done though. BTW, brake issues here as well (05 tona w/ 5000 miles on it). Good luck

I've been lucky so far, I've always had incredible brakes.....but I cleaned the pistons anyway.

There was a huge improvement in brake power after the 30k km service I just had done. I wonder if they bled them or cleaned the pistons or both? If it weren't for the language barrier and how busy they are right now, I'd call and ask.

Did the mechanic mean every 6k miles, or just the first?

If it's every 6k, what is Triumph doing that so different from everyone else?

In film those racing rotors and calipers look Hot! Let me know how you like them if you end up getting them. I am almost temped to order some just for the looks. I think that the stock calipers are so boring.

I just cleaned the calipers really well and used some EBC HH Sintered pads. It was a huge improvement. No more sponginess in the lever at all...
