The bike has 17k on with a carbon fiber pipe. Its been down slightly on the right side but not major. What I am curious about is how the reliability is on these bikes? i know nothing about triumphs except it was a blast test riding it today. Completely different beast than all my previous import style bikes.
Asking price is $4500 in Washington state. any input/suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

i can tell you from my experience....i love Triumph triples. the power is awesome for the real world riding. i own 2 now and have had three, so i am a little biased. i like the looks of my 99 Daytona better than my 04 Daytona. but the 04 rides a lot better, plus is way more powerful. i wouldnt hesitate to tell someone to buy a 2000 though, as long as it checked out good mechanically. don't be alarmed to find a ton of aftermarket parts for the bike though....it comes with owning a Brit bike, there isn't a huge group of aftermarket makers. there is plenty of stuff, it just takes a little looking.
as for the reliability, Triumph makes good machines, its only as good as the previous owner kept it though.
i do know that you will get a lot of attention because it isn't a cookie cutter Jap bike....that you will notice...

"What I am curious about is how the reliability is on these bikes? i know nothing about triumphs except it was a blast test riding it today." --pwoens
In the early '90s the motorcycle mags wrote (roughly) that the 'New' Triumph knew it had to erase any and all of the ills of the 'Old' Triumph. To be a viable company, Triumph first and foremost addressed the issue of reliability. Time has shown that Triumph wasn't just providing lip service.
As, dano, wrote much does depend on the attentiveness of the previous owner (king issue for any used bike), but there are no inherent issues.

Powens-
If it helps, I just purchased an 03 Daytona 955. I am a Triumph convert for life now!
My past bikes have all been Jap sports, and while they were good, the Triumph has shown me that there can be a fusion of sport as well as class....something the Jap bikes (IMHO) are lacking.
Price seems to be good...if the bike is, too. Have it checked out, and if it's good, buy that thing. You will love it, I promise!
HTH,
SKI

They are great bikes and that is a good price. Have a mechanic go over the bike, especially the top end. If things do not work out on that bike, see a Triumph dealer. There are some really good deals on brand new '05's with a 2 year warranty. Plus, there have been several refinements to the bike since 2000 that make a great bike even better. Check it out!

Should you buy it? Yes, but I think $3800 would be a fair offer since it's not mint. This spring I paid $6000 for an '02 with 9000 kms, and mint.

I agree with drakewn, I would go a bit lower. But there is no question you'll love the bike. I'm not sure what part of Washington you're in but there is a 02 with 11K on it for about $500 more on the Seattle craigslist site. Looks clean, check it out. http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/mcy/879782394.html
What ever you decide, let me know if your in the Seattle area, there are a couple of good RAT (Riders Association of Triumph) packs near us. Let's go ridin!
