As some of you have read my bike was blown over by a recent storm. My exhaust was damaged, frame nicked, mirror broke, and fairing scratched up.

I called my agent and told her what happened. She said since it was an act of God it was a comprehensive claim and my deductible was $100. I got the estimates and faxed them to her.

Today, the Claims Department called. I spoke with them and now they're telling me it will be covered under collision and my deductible is $500.

They explained that since my damaged was caused by the bike colliding with the ground and not by the wind it's a collision claim. I explained that if there is no wind, there is no claim, thus sequence of events were caused by the wind. She said the only way it's a comprehensive claim is if the wind literally blew my exhaust and mirror off. Otherwise, it's collision.

I hate insurance companies.

The first gal was right.

The industry term is "covered cause of loss" The "cause" of the loss was wind, hence comprehensive. The covered cause of loss was not the ground. The ground did not jump up and hit your bike. Go back to your agent and enlist her help, she will speak the same language as your company and she is on the "inside".

Also, if your agent said that, then they have to stick to it. Its called "errors and ommissions" and she will be personally insured to cover herself for that.

BTW, did I mention I was a catastrophe adjuster?

SWEET! Now go get the lying, cheap Bast*rds!

This is why EVERYBODY hates insurance companys! They don't mind taking your premium dollars (and they cheat at that too!) but when you have a claim it's amazing how little liability they have all of a sudden. I don't mind them making sure a claim isn't bogus, but just ask how many Katrina victims are still playing games with them! The next storm season will be here before most are paid their claims!

Wow... that blows. I had a similar experience with my truck. I was hauling a pallet of cinder blocks from Home Depot to the house. I was driving slow and taking my time. Despite my best efforts, the pallet broke and all the blocks fell over. The blocks rolled into the back of my cab and caused damage to the bed and cab. None of the blocks fell out of the truck, nobody was hurt and I didn't get in a crash because of it. They charged it to my collision instead of comprehensive. Pissed me off. They claimed that since I was in motion, it fell under collision. I spoke with other insurance companies that said it should be comprehensive, not collision. Needless to say, I am with another insurance company now. I feel your pain.

Did you get the license # of the block that did the damage?

Insurance credo, Deny , Delay and Don't pay.

Or say the mean wind came by and knocked over your bike
in an act of vandalism.

I would find the most expensive exhaust system you could find and tell them that's what broke. That or tell cancel that claim and tell them your exhaust was stolen....

I gotta admit, I do "property" and the "auto" side of insurance I know very little about. From what I know on the inside, the auto ins. side IS a big game of screw the customer. Be careful not to get too fraudulent or they will walk away and say "no". Thats a clause in all ins. contracts.
I do mainly large scale commercial losses and Im sorry to say that, yes, there are a few Im still working on. Actually the property side of ins. is a straight up industry. As an adjuster they WANT me to pay your house/business claim and as fast as possible. I also get paid a percentage/sliding scale of your claim, so the more I pay you, the more I get paid! Is this a great country or what?

BTW, in defense, the scale of something like Katrina is why it takes so long. Hell nothing is finished there, including ins.!!!
