Actually, that's a communication error on my part. I *can* hit redline, that's no problem. My point was the bike is really fast and at redline I'm really flying.

It's so smooth, esp with the stock pipes, that I often don't even realize my speed. Not sure that makes sense- I can judge my speed on my other bike by how much the engine is screaming- this Daytona is so smooth it's a very different feel.

Thanks for the info ! I knew it was a rare bike and I don't need a true crotch-rocket. I am 6' 6" and 240 lbs, so I need a BIG BIKE.
I have stock and Yoshi Carbon Fiber pipes and need to test the differences between the two. I am sure that either way it will boogie enough for me !

The D1200 has a very broad powerband and builds power like a locomotive. I love this bike. Drop down a gear, grab a handful and at about 5000+ rpm your retinas begin to seperate from your eyeballs (almost)!

This is as much a long distance sport-tourer as it is a sportsbike. At least that's how I like to use it. I believe I will keep this bike a long time.

Lo there.
my 1200se is standard apart from Renegade cans,
Dyno figures give a genuine 132bhp at the back wheel,
and its not running properly, seems to me that 147bhp claim at the crank is far from unreasonable

I just sold my 96 Daytona 1200 with 45K miles on it to a co-worker so in a sense it is still in the family.
The bike is a great all around machine. No it will not eat up the rice rockets but it should give ytou a long trouble free life.
Good points: good gas mileage considering the weight,
good handling when properly sorted out,
very comfy for tall riders, (I am 6'-2")
good looking bike, just enough to stand
apart from the crowd.
I had the California spec cams, (rated at
138bhp), and with a bit of standard mods
had 114.27 at the rear wheel.
The bike was trouble free for the time I had
owned it, never left me stranded.
Great bunch of people that own Trumpets.
At least all the ones I've had the pleasure
meet.
triumphRat.net, great source for info and
Triumph banter.

Not so good points: Getting to the air filter is a nightmare
The bike is rather heavy
Lots of engine heat thrown at your legs. Good in winter, too hot in summer. At least in Texas.
Lack of aftermarket parts.
RAT is only as good as the people who form the groups. If you are expecting a Harley-esque style of group in the U.S. least ways, good luck.
Low resale value.
Watch out for the small hidden in-carb filters. THey can catch you out if they are not cleaned once in a while.
Overall it was a great bike and I do miss it at times.

Well,
I have had my D1200 for almost a week now. I learned it is number 009 in the series. That was a nice added bonus. I rode it for about a week or 150 miles - but keep in mind the guy I bought it off had it for two years and only put 400 mi. on it !
So far, I love it ! It is a real head turner and ride so smooth. There is definatley increased heat behind the clutch cover, but I can cope. New England tends to be cooler near the ground !
I suspect it will get more miles this summer that either of my vehicles. That is the way I like it !

The 1200 does tend to be a bit of a leg roaster. But it is nice in the winter. Glad you like your bike. Especially finding one with so little miles on it.

That interesting...I'm usually picky about stuff like the heat thing, but I've never noticed that on mine.

jcw,
Not a big fan of Mings, so if you have seen me around it was either at Brit U.S.A. or on the road.
Now I tool around on the 900ss most of the time, occasionally the Monster will come out and play.
