I am thinking of getting myself a 2002 Daytona 955i.

As all of the bikes have their weak parts and faults, could someone quickly brief me with what could be wrong or what to look for in a Daytona?

Thanks!!

Jussi

What to look for....
Make sure you have some kind of new tune map done if its stock...not saying stock is bad but it helps the low end grunt..Also a new can is good if it has stock can on..The sound of a triple above 6000 rpm is from another planet..not a twin not a four banger..but a nice growling triple sounds the best..
A qtr throttle is nice also..I know cause I went from stock to a qtr recently..and a 17 sproket on the front works wonders. :hammer:

Soon after I purchased my 2002 in 2005, the battery needed replacing. Other than that, haven't had any problems. Mine's been ridden 3000 plus miles since purchase.

They're great bikes. I'm only having a few issues: a high running temp (which will freak you out at first) but apparently is natural, unless you get up into the 225-230 degree range, then you might have some trapped air in your cooling system. I'm also having a head bearing issue that I'm told is common that causes an annoying rattle when you come off the throttle. I'm told all you have to do is replace that bearing with another sized one and it fixes the problem.

Some people complain of battery problems but I've yet to have one.

I'm really happy with my choice and wouldn't reccomend anything else in the Literbike category over a Daytona. Sure, there are faster bikes and bikes that handle better but my Daytona is so stable that I wouldn't trade that piece of mind for a little better performance. Plus, to me the Triumph's carry with them some herritage that not many companies have (100 years or so). They're original, they're fun and nothing sounds like a big triple!!! :upthumb:

Fivehundo covered it pretty well .I had a coil fail once, but thats the only problem it's had on it's own. The only other thing is episodes of intense smile cramping.

jusv, The head bearings going loose is a common complaint with the D955is. I recently adjusted the '02 D955i's and if the prob returns, I'll replace the upper bearing with a tapered Timpkin.

Otherwise, these bikes have a pretty good reputation for reliability and anything else will be a normal wear/maintenance item.

There is one thing that you really have to watch for. Be certain beyond any doubt that you don't fall into the trap of picking the wrong color. Real men ride Yellow sportbikes!

Bill ,Bill Bill, The altitude is obviously getting to you, Oxygen deprivation is often diagnosed through the belief that yellow is in any way superior to green. Ya know they call it British RACING Green for a reason. Nice looking bike though. :-D

I've got a VERY MINOR oil leak I believe is coming from the countershaft gasket. This can often happen if the chain is too tight.

I must admit that green is a very nice color. For trees, and grass..hell I even like my girls green eyes..but on a sportbike it is a well known fact that green is the color of envy. Hence the term, "green with envy" over the superior color in the spectrum....burnt yellow. That 'other' yellow (bananna) is interesting in a burnt retina sort of way..but the proper color of a british sport motorcycle is...well...you know.

kit:

Hehe, they're all beautiful....naturally.
