has anyone ever taken apart their speedo and/or tacho?
the reason I ask is that I have converted the daytona to a speed triple, put my clocks in the triple housing, gone to put the clock covers on and.... surprise- the bolts coming from the back are shorter!!! too short to put the clock covers on!!!!
looking for some 'sex' bolts (female part has internal thread to make up distance) but to no avail.
thought it may be worth considering dissassembling clocks and putting in longer bolts.

of course, could be stepping into dangerous (read- expensive if goes wrong).

any thoughts!!!???

unfortunatley a little behind on technology- no camera! duh!

will try and explain again!!

on the back of the speedo and tacho there are two small bolts (m5 i think) that mount it to the instrument housing/panel.
for the speed triple there are the two black metal covers that slide over the backs of the clocks.
however, i found the daytona clocks have shorter bolts coming from the back of them, and as a result arent long enough to go through the clock covers.
thought i'd see if anyone has had their clocks apart- i could try putting in longer bolts, but i don't know how easy it is to take the clocks apart- they seem pretty well sealed up!!!!probably to stop idiots like me tappering with 'em!!!

Hi Johnny, you are quite correct finding the bolts holding the black cover to the speed triples clocks are longer.
However, I would suggest that's as far as you disassemble the clocks, they are easily injured, and expensive!.
You may be better to measure the difference in length required and buy a sleeve nut similar to what you find on a throttle cable, but smaller in diameter, then find a bolt that fits the thread to use as a male end, bingo, SEX nut!

had another close up look at the clocks whilst i was drilling out new holes in the tacho cover (daytona tacho has its mounting bolts in a different position, so triple clock cover has to have the holes moved)
decieded, as i first thought, to access bolts internally would be a little bit tricky, a little bit silly, and potentially a little bit expensive if i slip up!!!!

got some cheap and tacky sleeve bolts from my local skate shop and have cut them to size and re tapped. rough looking but functional.

only a temp measure as i intend to go with the connecting nut option (cheap, easy reversible) or i got in contact with a chap you machines bolts, and he can do me a set of button head sleeve bolts for £9.

cat well and truly skinned in more ways than one!!!
