I saw the "Nail in my tire" topic and I had a similar experience a while ago. Some guys on another forum were bashing the tire I had on my bike but I loved it. Regardless, I got a good deal on a set of Pirelli Diablo Stratas so I took it. To be honest with you, price is my key concern but I know that some people out there are loyal to their brands.

At any rate, I loved my Dunlop 208! It was super reliable in the turns and even if I tried to push it a little, there was never any doubt that it would hook up well. Any of you guys got some favorite tires?

BTW, if any of you need tires, Pirelli's deal is that if you buy the rear they send you the front for the cost of the shipping ($25). Here is the link: http://www.getpirelli.com/home.html

Michelin Pilot Powers. Would you want to experiment on another tire while putting half the skin on your body at risk?
I have them on my turbo Busa putting down 318 HP at the wheel. I'm not willing to experiment cause when you fall off at over 200 MPH..........Well............... you won't need a helmet or leather jacket.

Any brand of tire these days is a good tire........used within the parameters with which it was designed for.
Many seem to guage a tire based on track type criteria or similar levels on the street. You ride at a pace and level that belongs at the track (and ride like that on the street)? Get a race tire or one of the latest tires that can do both. You like to sport-tour at a good clip? There's many to choose from.....just don't buy something for that and then expect race tire performance. Long mileage your aim? Get something that's designed for that....just don't expect to stick like glue in the twisties.
Every tire has its trade-offs. I get a kick out of reading the posts that bash a tire because it does'nt perform to their standards (most likely it's based on track type criteria again) The cheapest unpopular tire out there will be a good tire....used like it was designed to be used. Some have better feel/feedback, steering, etc than others, but they all are good...

I liked every tire I've ever bought or had on a bike for one reason or another, some had better feedback, stability, turn in, some lasted longest, some burned up fast: (times used)

Dunlop 208GP (1)
Continental Conti Force (best life) (2)
Continental Conti Force Max (worst life) (1)
Pirelli Diablo (2)
Michelin Pilot Power (2)
Avon AV45/46 (1)
Continental Road Attack (1)
Continental Conti Blitz (1)
Michelin Macadam 50 (2)
Metzler M-1 Sportec (2)
Dunlop Qualifier (just put on) I don't expect much life with these though....we'll see

If I had to pick my favorites it would be the Michelin Pilot Powers....followed by the Continental Road Attacks.

Be careful who you ask when it comes to tires. Best off asking someone who does the same type riding as you
What did you think about the Dunlop 208? Any complaints?

I find my diablos heat up quicker than the Bridgestone 010's also the little D with horns looks cool if you paint it white. Shallow I know but true.

They came on a 95 Speed Triple I bought used a few years back, but I was relativly new to the sportbike scene so knowing what the tires were doing and understanding what I was feeling was'nt very good at the time. These were the 208GP race versions...I do recall putting on around 3000 miles on them, that they stuck like a boog on your finger when warm, and would slide when cold if pushed too hard. Needless to say, I would never use these for the type of riding I do...mostly because of cost and the mileage they don't get.

I have always had great luck with Dunlops. With that said I just spooned on a set of Powers so we will see how they work. I did strongly consider the new Dunlop Qualifier but I wanted to see what everyone was raving about with the Pilot Powers.

Michelin Pilot Powers, hands down! I've tried many different brands, and these have been the best by FAR! Way better grip, stability, and mileage than the Dunlop 208. I'm starting to here great reviews on the Qualifier, so sounds like the Pilot Powers may have a little competition now. But I'm so pleased with the Pilot Powers(on my 3rd set), I don't see switching anytime soon, even if someone is claiming better results with grip and mileage. If it's not broke, why try to fix it! They fit my riding style perfect! :-D

I'm also in the market for new tyres. I've always had Bridgestones, most recently BT010 on the front and BT014 which have been fine and stick like glue, but the back tyre has only lasted 3K. Any ideas for a longer lasting set of tyres? Has anyone put BT020s on a Daytona?

I've been using BT020's for several years (5 sets) and they do what they're designed to do which is to last longer and grip well in the rain. I wanted to try something a little more sporty this time and after reading the praises about Pilot Powers I too put a set on my Daytona (1200) and haven't looked back. They're the best tires I've ever used. If I can get close to the mileage with the Powers that I was getting from the BT020's (5,500 +/- average) then I'll be happy. I'll be happy with the Powers at 1/2 the mileage that's how much better they are!
