Have recently sold my 01 RS Sprint owned from new and bought a 93 Daytona 900, in Red. Lusted after an early Hinckley for years so finally did the search and came up with what I wanted but needs a bit of TLC. Has 84,000km on the clock. I ride it 120kms each day for work and see 600+kms every weekend. Had it for nearly a month now and find that it fits me really well, and I believe it is a better bike than the RS. Not that the RS was in anyway substandard! The Daytona feels more solid and comfortable, for the passenger too.
My question is this, does anyone know how many of this model were made? I haven't seen any about, other than Yellow, also a 93. Also noted it sold very quickly.
Thanks in advance,
Kerry

I think there were quite a few sold though production numbers were lower in 93 than now. After all the Hinkley factory had only been up and running two years in 93. My guess is that your not seeing many because these bikes are fast approaching "classic" age and are either cossetted in garages, crashed and in the motorcycle graveyard or simply languishing unloved as the newer faster lighter models have come along.

If you think the 900 is rare try riding a 1200! like hens teeth they are and thats in the UK where they were born!

'94 was the first year that Triumph was re-introduced to the Canadian market, and '95 for the US.

I have yet to encounter another early Daytona rider in my area, though I know that there are at least a few out there somewhere

Thanks for the replies so far guys. Interested to see if many are still about and what condition they're in, what their owner thinks of it and any problems unique to the early models. Parts so far, though sometimes pricey, seem to be readily available. I trust Triumph will continue with parts so we can keep some of their History alive! This is just such an awesome bike, it's number 42 for me, and is one of the most user friendly, comfortable and charismatic bikes I have owned, British, Euro or Oriental. If I sent my VIN number to Triumph, are they able to pinpint its manufacture date? Has anyone done this?
Also, must be some big mileage Triumphs out there.....have seen some here in NZ well into the 100,000's, interesting to see some high mileages posted here and whether the bike has had major surgery in that time or not.
Cheers

they must all be here in NZ, just got our MotorCycle Trader magazine today. In it is a 1996 Datona Super 3 with only 33,000kms on the clock and get this....1 owner from new! I have a video of a 1992 TV programme about new vehicles in New Zealand. On it was the new 1200 Trophy on a test ride around Auckland. The distibuter was being interviewed, and stated that New Zealand was amongst the 1st countries in the world to get the new Triumphs, and that sales here have always been very good for Triumph (referring to Coventry and Meriden build). I was hoping to hear from Worldwide and New Zealand members about their experiences on the early Daytona 900's and Super 3. Would also be interesting to know the percentage of early Hinckleys that have remained on the roads in comparison to the manufactured numbers.

I've put 58,000 miles (93,300 km) so far on my '96 D1200, a friend has a '95 Trophy 900 with 145,000 miles (233,300 km)
which apart from the cams & compression is the same motor as your D900. He's had no major issues.
