I Have a 2004 daytona 955i the tires were for the most part brand new. I have the stock Battlax 190/50ZR17. What should i replace it with? Anything better out there. I also don't want to replace the front tire.

"I" would plug it with one of those mushroom type plugs. Or better yet, pull the tire off and patch it. This is assuming your set up to change and balance your own tires....I've plugged a few mc tires and never had any issues, and never worried about it.......If your worried about doing either of those then by all means your only option is to replace it with the same type tire. And most shops probably won't bother with plugging your tire anyway. Get the same rear or spring for a new set of whatever your heart desires, there's nothing worse than mis-matched tires on a bike!! Let the fur fly......

I went with the Michelin Pilot Powers. For the back tire I went down a size 180/55 17. It helps with cornering. If you don't want to buy 2 new tires, then you best bet is to buy what is on there. You don't want to mismatch the front and rear

I'd patch it from the inside before I'd mix tire models/brands. If you ride really hard, I'd definitely go with a new tire (or pair of tires if you want a different model/brand).

Yep, happened to me again.
First, I lost my 208 to a roofing nail now, my diablo with 2k miles on it is gone. This sucks... :brk:
I haven't even recieved my free front diablo yet and this one's alredy done for. I'm thinking about just patching it (go ahead, let the beating begin). I just can't aford to be putting on a new tire every month.

EEC, The most desirable action is to replace the tire. The most practical is to properly patch it or plug the hole from the inside, particularly if it's a low mileage tire.
That said, I have replaced a whole set because of a flat-out...I wanted different tires anyway. I've also repaired without any problems.

this is my 2 cents....when i am on my motorcycle i know that i want all the advantages to be SAFE there is. if that means 2 good non-plugged tires then so be it. i just cant justify my safety to a motorcycle tire that has been plugged. they flex and heat up to much. we only have 2 tires, i don't want to be on a bike when it blows out because of a patch or plug. i know i...as a lot of others have the problem with the throttle going wide open sometimes, so why chance a wreck with a tire that could fail? i have had t he nail problem too...once just after i replaced a set of Pirelli SuperCorsa Dragons, after 200 miles i got a nail. replaced the rear, and 2 weeks later it happened again.. that was an expensive month for tires...
anyhow, ill get off my. :asb: .....i would rather you guys be safe and broke vs hurt with a few coins in ya pocket...

Dano,
Either way, I don't plan on having it on there a whole lot longer. I think I'll just patch it and make due for now but I'll have a fresh set on for the trip up to Laguna Seca.
I just need it to get to and from work for the next few weeks until I can find a good deal on tires (anyone know of any right now?).
They tore down our old parking lot at my job and contracted an airport parking lot to shuttle us into work. You have to plan to be at work 15-20 minutes earlier just to account for waiting for the shuttle. Without my bike, life sucks...

fivehundo......i just checked chaparral racing.com and the Bridgestone bt012ss sets go from$195...with a 180rear to $213 with a 190rear... i have these on my bike and i like them...the 012ss that is....not the plain 012. chaparral motorsports is right down the way from me. in fact...my shop is next door to them....i get a 10% discount with then cuz we do their electrical work. in fact we are doing their expansion right now...
there is some ok deals on the pilot powers too...a few more bucks than the battalax

Have you tried buying tires at Cycle Gear? This is where I got mine. Their prices are competitive and they come with a road hazard warranty. If you get a flat and the tire is pretty new they replace it. All you pay is the mount and balance. Then they start to prorate as the tire tread wears down. You pay 25% if you have 75% tread left. 50% with 50% tread left and so on.
